Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.
Purpose
Support the mine site by creating purchase orders and expediting the delivery of goods or the performance of services on an ad hoc basis. Manage and develop the mine site procurement Officer.
Essential Duties
- Execute purchase orders for ad hoc requests that require immediate attention and short delivery times.
- Assess and monitor local suppliers capacity and ability to provide goods and services within a very short time frame.
- Monitor and liaise on inbound deliveries of expedited materials.
- Monitor systematic receipts of goods and performance acknowledgements of services to ensure critical vendors are paid on time.
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement or related field or Associate’s degree with relative experience required.
- Broad business knowledge and focus, ability to recognize issues, problems and capitalize on opportunities.
- Procurement processes specific to the mining industry, including sourcing, purchase order management, and vendor negotiations.
- Familiarity with local procurement policies and practices and a deep understanding of local markets is required.
- Extensive experience in SC in international mining environments or other related sectors including leadership experience in sourcing and procurement management Proven experience in local engagement and procurement and supplier capacity building to meet the operational needs of a mining site.
