The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

HUMAN RESOURCES ADVISOR (12 Month Contract)
In this strategically focused role, the Human Resources Advisor will act as a key partner in shaping a resilient and high-performing workforce. They will lead initiatives that align people strategies with operational goals, proactively manage workforce-related risks, and implement programs that drive talent development, retention, and productivity. This role combines hands-on execution with a forward-thinking approach to ensure HR practices support organizational sustainability, compliance, and competitive advantage in a dynamic mining environment.
This role will be hybrid between Sudbury Office and the Cote Gold Mine Site in Gogama, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
Area 1:
Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and supervisors regarding HR-related inquiries, concerns, and issues.
- Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and employment standards to ensure consistent application and compliance with regulations.
- Manage employee relations matters such as conflict resolution and disciplinary processes while maintaining confidentiality and fairness.
- Conduct HR orientation with new hires, emphasizing safety culture and workforce expectations.
- Communicate policies to employees, ensuring consistent, fair, and efficient application.
- Act as a subject matter expert in pension, benefits, performance management, employee relations, and career development.
- Actively listen to employee concerns and collaborate with leaders to develop retention strategies that mitigate turnover risk.
- Identify and escalate workforce-related risks (e.g., skill shortages, compliance gaps, engagement issues) and recommend mitigation strategies.
Area 2
Performance Management and Leadership Development.
- Provide support and coaching to leaders in addressing employee performance, behavioral, and disciplinary issues.
- Support leaders in setting goals and driving the annual performance management process to enhance workforce productivity.
- Conduct investigations and participate in progressive disciplinary actions, as required.
- Deliver leadership development and performance coaching to strengthen supervisory capability and succession readiness.
- Manage the probationary review process and ensure alignment with performance expectations.
- Provide advice and guidance on performance improvement plans and support employees through coaching or further development.
- Assist leaders in conducting performance reviews and providing constructive feedback.
- Deliver general supervisor training quarterly, incorporating topics such as workforce engagement, safety leadership, and productivity optimization.
- Manage the individual development plan process to build future-ready talent pipelines.
Area 3
HR Administration
- Provide input to the design of HR programs, policies, and initiatives to ensure they support strategy, values, and operational objectives.
- Maintain accurate electronic employee files with relevant documentation to support compliance and workforce analytics.
- Administer the exit process and conduct exit interviews to identify retention risks and improvement opportunities.
- Liaise with the Occupational Health Department to administer short-term disability and return-to-work processes, ensuring alignment with safety and productivity goals.
- Contribute to workforce planning initiatives by analyzing trends in turnover, absenteeism, and skill gaps, and recommending proactive solutions.
Job Qualifications
Minimum Requirements And Nice To Haves

- College diploma in HR or Business-related field.
Work experience - Nature & Length
- 3 or more years of Human Resource experience.
- Experience in the mining/natural resource industry or construction/engineering is an asset.

- Comprehensive HR Expertise - Deep knowledge of HR practices and employment legislation.
- Strategic Workforce Planning & Analytics - Ability to analyze workforce trends, identify risks (e.g., turnover, skill gaps), and develop proactive strategies for talent acquisition, retention, and productivity improvement.
- Counseling, Mediation & Conflict Resolution - Advanced skills in coaching, mediation, and conflict resolution to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
- Relationship Building & Influence - Ability to build sustainable, trust-based relationships across all levels of the organization and influence leaders toward strategic HR solutions.
- Communication & Engagement - Superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex HR concepts clearly and engage diverse stakeholders.
