About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Purpose
The role of the Advisor - Technical is to provide technical expertise, leadership, guidance, clear direction and regular communication with the Process Operations and Fixed Plant Maintenance teams to carry out support functions within the Processing departement.
To provide expert technical (production) advice in relation to the effective operation of my section to meet the goals set by my Superintendent.
Essential Duties
- Develop Operator routines and log sheets (with input) required for efficient running of the plant & recommend these to the Superintendent.
- Monitor the effectiveness of these & make changes to improve them within your authority & escalate those outside to your Superintendent.
- Keep abreast of the current state of equipment and plant performance issues.
- Work closely with Process and Maintenance so they better understand & can contribute to the operating strategy for your section.
- Review and Prioritise new work requests.
- Maintain production plan week 1+ (up to a 6 week horizon)
- Work with Maintenance & Planning Team to align the week 1+ maintenance schedule with the production plan, to optimise production and effectively manage the backlog.
- Develop plans to commission the plant in their area after shutdowns.
- Lead departmental operations related RCAs
- Co-ordinate Production Operational Readiness work for Capital Projects, specifically around the design, the operating strategy, work of and training for the Operators.
- Plan operating strategy and isolation requirements to support the plan
- Demonstrate leadership in the workplace by modelling high standards of conduct to reflect the Newmont’s standards and values
- Coaches supervisors and teams in the business operational plans by helping in planning and acquiring resources, monitoring and adjusting operational performance and providing reports on performance, as required
- Lead effective workplace relationships in motivating, mentoring, coaching and developing the team and forming the bridge between the management of Newmont and team members
- Supports teams in accordance with safety best practice in line with Newmont’s Safety Systems.
- Advises teams to meet compliance with Newmont’s Environmental Policies and Procedures.
- Carries out duties as directed by the Processing Superintendent in all areas of the Process Plant.
- Coaches teams in regular inspections of all plant equipment in the areas of responsibility and the reporting of hazards or breakdowns in a timely manner
Training & Experience
- Certificate 4 in Resource Processing (preferable) or relevant industry experience essential.
- Tertiary qualification advantageous.
- PNG Driver's Licence – currently holds Class 6 or ability to obtain essential.
- Previous experience in delivery and assessment of training desirable.
- 7+ years relevant work wth supervisory and technical roles experience essential.
- Previous experience working in remote location in a developing country, but not essential.
- Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communications and public speaking skills.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
- Demonstrates personal responsibility for own health and safety whilst setting clear expectations of relevant legal obligations, safe work practices to others, holding them accountable for their actions.
- Takes personal responsibility to develop team members through constructive feedback, allocation of assignments / projects, coaching and formal training to build capacity and competence.
- Work in accordance with PNG Mine Safety Act, Newmont Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures
- Company-Wide and departmental ERP systems including SAP
- Previous skills in and experience with Mill Linings and Lining Systems
