Responsibilities
- Strictly follow safety procedures (HSE), operational protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Work with technicians and other operators, often in a control room environment, but also on the plant floor
- Start, stop, and adjust power-generating units (generators) to meet mine demand.
- Continuously watch meters, gauges, and control boards for temperature, pressure, voltage, fuel levels, and power flow.
- Make real-time adjustments to maintain efficiency and stability within safe operating limits.
- Identify malfunctions, diagnose issues, and take corrective action or initiate repairs.
- Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and assist with repairs of equipment.
- Accurately log operational data, analyze performance, and generate reports for management.
- Ensure uninterrupted power for essential mine functions like pumps, conveyors, and ventilation, crucial for safety and production.
- Handle power disruptions or equipment failures quickly, often under high pressure, to prevent mine shutdowns or hazards.
- Manage fuel supply (diesel, gas) for generators, which are vital in remote mining operations.
Qualification Requirements
- Certificate (Process Plant Operations, Civil Construction Plant Operations) qualifications are essential
- Mechanical Competency Certificate or Trade Test
- HV Electrical Competency certificate or Trade test
- Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.
Experience And Competencies Needed
- Minimum 2 years Power generation or heavy industry
- Understanding plant systems (mechanical, electrical, fluid power), reading P&IDs, operating turbines/generators, maintenance.
- Problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, strong communication, adaptability, working under pressure.
