About The Role
We are looking for a Superintendent Early Ore to join the Simandou Mining Operations team. The role leads the safe and efficient delivery of early ore activities, including screening plants, crushing plants, ore haulage, material movement and train loading.
You will be accountable for contractor performance, operating discipline and ensuring early ore production aligns with short term and medium term plans. The role works closely with Mine Operations, Maintenance, Rail, Mine Services and Planning to ensure early ore systems, haulage fleets and material movement activities are reliable, well coordinated and aligned with site priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead safety as a core operational outcome, ensuring all early ore activities are planned and executed with disciplined risk management and in line with Rio Tinto standards
- Lead all early ore operations, including screening, crushing, haulage, material movement and train loading
- Provide clear leadership and direction to contractors operating mobile and fixed early ore assets
- Ensure early ore and material movement activities are fully integrated into the two-week operational plan
- Oversee contractor performance across production, safety, asset care, haulage efficiency and cost
- Work closely with Maintenance and Asset Management teams to ensure plant and mobile equipment availability
- Monitor throughput, availability, utilisation and quality across screening, crushing, haulage and loading systems
- Drive continuous improvement in plant performance, haulage efficiency and material flow
- Support commissioning, ramp-up and optimisation of early ore infrastructure
- Contribute to longer term early ore strategies, including plant configuration, haulage models and capacity increases
- Build strong working relationships with Rail teams to support train loading and dispatch
- Upskill national supervisors and engineers through coaching, mentoring and visible field leadership
- Ensure compliance with Rio Tinto standards, site procedures and regulatory requirements
What You Will Bring
- Strong safety leadership with a visible field presence
- Several years of experience in early ore, materials handling, haulage or mineral processing operations, including contractor management
- Experience overseeing mobile haulage fleets and material movement systems
- Understanding of interfaces between haulage, crushing, screening and rail loading
- Strong planning, coordination and problem-solving skill
- Clear communication and confidence working across Operations, Maintenance and Rail
- Good cost awareness and production focus
- Experience in early ore, temporary plants or ramp-up operations
- Exposure to train loading systems and rail interfaces
- Engineering or trade skills, but not required
- French or Mandarin language skills

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
