About The Role
Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Instructional Designer with technical writing skills and experience in the Training & Capability Development space. Primary focus will be on identifying a National successor to develop and train in the role within 12 months whilst supporting the Training & Capability Development department’s instructional design and technical writing initiatives. Prepares instruction manuals, how-to guides, QRG’s, training curriculum, training content and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information more easily. To develop, gather, and disseminate technical information through the organization’s communications channels and resources. Creating compelling learning activities and course content, working with subject matter experts to identify training needs, applying instructional design theories and methods, and utilizing multimedia tools to enhance the learning process. Conduct instructional research, develop assessment instruments, and maintain project documentation for effective course development.
Role Accountabilities
- Develop, research, outline, write, and edit comprehensive content and documentation that meets organizational standards.
- Gain deep understanding of products and services, and translate complex information into simple, polished, engaging content.
- Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs. Collaborate with cross functional teams and SME’s to develop, review and refine content, incorporating feedback and suggestions.
- Write user-friendly content that meets the needs of target audience, turning insights into language for user success.
- Develop and maintain detailed database of reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications.
- Evaluate current content and develop innovative methods for improvement. Create immersive and interactive educational experiences and use core instructional design principles and theories to maximize learning for the target audiences.
- Research and implement new technologies into instructional design and develop cohesive, relevant curriculum by working with SMEs.
- Ability to navigate learning management systems and proficiency in course development, content creation and animation software’s.
- Create supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc) by visualising instructional graphics, the user interface and the finished product.
- Write effective visual designs and being able to write instructional text, audio scripts and video scripts.
- Decide on the criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment instruments.
What You Will Bring
- > 3 or more years’ experience as an effective instructional designer with proven technical writing skills and experience.
- Proven working experience in instructional design and with instructional technology.
- Excellent knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models.
- Lesson and curriculum planning skills.
- Basic HTML and Flash programming knowledge.
- Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System (LMS).
- Visual design skills (Vyond, Rise, Storyline, Synthesia A1, etc) and ability to storyboard.
- Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy, ensuring high-quality work output.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with utmost confidentiality.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking skills, and decision-making abilities.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
