About The Role
We’re looking for a
Mine Coordinator to support day‑to‑day open pit mining activities at the Simandou Project. This role is
field‑focused, working closely with supervisors, operators, and contractors to help deliver safe, consistent production in line with the mining plan.
You’ll bring practical experience in open pit mining, a strong presence in the pit, and a hands-on approach to supporting operations. This position is ideal for someone looking to develop their technical and leadership capability while contributing to a high‑performance mining team.
What You’ll Be Doing
Field operations
- Support daily pit activities to meet plan and shift targets
- Work with shift supervisors and operators during dig, load, haul, and dump operations
- Monitor field conditions and equipment performance, escalating issues early
- Maintain a strong and visible presence in the pit, fostering safe behaviour and good communication
Operational support
- Assist with short-term planning, equipment allocation, and shift coordination
- Help review pit layouts, dig blocks, and sequences to ensure safe and practical execution
- Collect production data, report variances, and highlight improvement opportunities
- Liaise with Technical Services, Geology, and Maintenance to reduce delays and improve efficiency
Safety and compliance
- Promote safe working practices and support the site’s safety expectations
- Conduct pit checks, hazard reporting, and follow-up on corrective actions
- Assist with incident investigations and compliance inspections
Teamwork and collaboration
- Support supervisors, operators, and contractor teams to ensure daily priorities are understood
- Help coach less experienced personnel and contribute to building capability in the team
- Encourage a respectful, inclusive, and productive work environment
What You’ll Bring
- Experience working in open pit mining operations (load & haul, drill & blast, or similar)
- Strong practical understanding of field execution and daily mining processes
- A commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams
- International or remote-site experience is an advantage
- Fluent English is required; French or Mandarin will be well regarded

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
