The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada's largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.
Job Summary
We are seeking a Mine Geologist – RC Drilling to join our team. Reporting to the Geology Superintendents, the Mine Geologist – RC Drilling will ensure company goals and objectives are met while promoting and respecting Equinox Gold’s values, Health and Safety Code of Conduct, and the environment.
This position is based in Geraldton, Ontario, with a rotation schedule of 14 days on / 14 days off.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all Reverse Circulation (RC) Grade Control (GC) drilling operations, including sampling, chip logging, and monitoring drilling progress.
- Oversee drill sites, drilling campaigns, and contractor performance to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
- Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety, Environmental, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) standards, including adherence to proper sampling procedures and insertion of blanks and standards.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to Geological Technicians to support departmental objectives and maintain high performance standards.
- Coordinate and participate in planning activities while collaborating with Mine Operations and Engineering to optimize RC drilling and grade control processes.
- Prepare and maintain accurate operational records, including reports, databases, downhole survey data, and standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring alignment with company and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, problem-solving, and cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing RC GC drilling efficiency, data quality, and safety performance.
- Provide technical and operational support during staff shortages or as directed by the Superintendent or Senior Mine Geologist.
- Perform in-pit geological mapping and data analysis for grade control and geotechnical evaluation.
- Compile and interpret geological and assay data to define ore-waste boundaries.
- Update grade control database and design production ore blocks.
- Participate in end-of-period grade and tonnage reconciliation.
Required Experience And Skill Set
- Eligibility to register as a Geologist-in-Training or Professional Geoscientist in Ontario.
- Experience with Archean orogenic lode gold deposits and their controls.
- Good knowledge and understanding of open pit mining operations.
- 1-2 years of experience in open pit production geology, preferably managing RC grade control drill programs.
- Strong reporting skills.
- Excellent working knowledge of Seequent Leapfrog Geo, Seequent MX Deposit, QGIS, Deswik, Datamine (Ore Controller and Studio RM), and Orica OREPro 3D.
