We are seeking a Junior to Intermediate Geochemist.
Description Of Responsibilities
In SRK’s Geoenvironmental practice, there are many opportunities to work on interdisciplinary projects with geotechnical, chemical, and environmental engineers, hydrogeologists, and geochemists on a variety of challenging and unusual projects.
Your Primary Responsibilities Will Include
- Developing field sampling and analysis plans for resource projects (oil sands and mining) and assisting in field data collection programs,
- Coordinating with commercial laboratories and research institutions to obtain analytical and experimental chemistry data (inorganic & organic),
- Organizing and reviewing large amounts of water and solids chemistry data,
- Developing conceptual (bio)geochemical models for tailings storage facilities and pit lakes,
- Interpreting spatial and temporal water and solids chemistry data to monitor and explain observations based on conceptual understandings of the geochemical and hydrogeologic setting,
- Preparing technical reports and presentations for a variety of audiences.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- A degree in geology, geochemistry, or environmental engineering. Strong preference for candidates with a graduate degree.
- 3 to 7 years of related work experience.
- Professional registration or eligibility to obtain it.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Effective time management skills.
- Ability or willingness to learn Python coding.
- A desire to work both independently and collaboratively and to learn new skills.
- Experience working within oil sands is preferred but not required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Relocation may be necessary but remote-work opportunities will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If not based in Vancouver, periodic travel to work from the Vancouver office will be required. Duration and frequency will be determined based on experience.
The estimated base pay range for this position is $75,000 to $120,000. The salary offered will be commensurate with relevant skills, knowledge, and experience.
This position involves working in multi-disciplinary teams on a range of projects and may include international travel.
