About the Job:
The Coeur Silvertip mine, located in British Columbia just 8 kilometres south of the Yukon border, is seeking a Junior Geologist: Temporary Work Placement to work in a camp-based environment, working 12-hour shifts. Flexible work rotational schedule confirmed at time of hire.
This is an early career position suitable for students currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant post-secondary education program. Options are available for candidates who plan to return to school in the fall, as well as those available into the winter. End dates beyond September are subject to change based on the needs of the company. Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-operational checks, operate equipment, and perform all job functions according to Safe Operating procedures.
- Ensure that in all aspects of the operation, environmental policies and practices are followed keeping the preservation of the natural environment a priority.
- Responsible for accurate geological and/or geotechnical oriented-core logging and sampling.
- Assist in core handling activities when required.
- Assist team with inspections of exploration drilling worksites and operations.
- Accomplish other tasks within his/her area of expertise as requested.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for a self-motivated team player with an attention to detail; previous field work/camp experience is required.
- Enrolled in or recently graduated from a B.Sc. Geology, Geoscience or Mine Engineering program (or equivalent field of study).
- Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; some experience with geological software is ideal.
- Eligible for professional registration as Member in Training (if graduated).
- Valid driver's license.
- Physically fit to perform the duties of the position.
Additional Information:
This position is available in two work streams; one for current students and one for recent graduates. Candidates should indicate their current education progress in their application.
- To be eligible for the summer student work stream, candidates must be registered in a full time or part time post-secondary program in a Canadian post-secondary institution, returning to classes in the fall/winter.
- Silvertip is located within Tahltan and Kaska First Nations Traditional territories and local community members and Canadian Indigenous peoples are encouraged to apply.
- Additionally, remote British Columbia and Yukon residents are encouraged to apply. Positions may be eligible for external subsidies and applicants may be required to co-endorse subsidy agreement.
- Willing to work a two-week rotation schedule, with 12-hour shifts per day at a remote camp.
- Our current designated marshalling locations are Vancouver, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Calgary, Edmonton, Whitehorse, Teslin, and Watson Lake.
