We are looking for an experienced
Mine Engineering Superintendent to support the Mine Technical Services Department. In this crucial leadership role, you will be responsible for leading the Mine Engineering function within Mine Technical Services and providing strategic and operational technical support to ensure safe, efficient, and economically sustainable mining operations. This role oversees mine planning, design, and performance across all planning horizons while developing a high-performing technical team and ensuring strong collaboration with operations and supporting departments.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Technical Expertise
- Lead and oversee all mine engineering and technical services activities, including life-of-mine (LoM) planning, long-, medium- and short-range mine planning, and operational forecasting.
- Develop, review, and optimize mine designs, production schedules, pit and waste dump designs, haul road layouts, and associated infrastructure.
- Provide technical leadership for drill and blast design, fleet selection and optimization, and fleet management systems (FMS).
- Ensure accurate survey control, reconciliation, and integration of geological, survey, and operational data into mine plans.
- Prepare and maintain LoM plans, annual mine plans, budgets, quarterly forecasts, and supporting financial models.
- Lead risk identification and mitigation related to mine design, geotechnical stability, hydrology, and operational performance.
- Ensure high technical standards, QA/QC, and compliance with best practices, statutory requirements, and company standards.
- Evaluate and implement new technologies, software tools, and innovative engineering solutions to improve productivity and cost efficiency.
- Act as a visible safety leader by promoting and enforcing Rosebel’s health, safety, and environmental standards at all times.
- Ensure mine engineering activities comply with all safety regulations, environmental requirements, and statutory obligations.
Leadership, Training & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Mine Engineering team, fostering a culture of accountability, inclusion, continuous improvement, and high performance.
- Provide coaching, technical guidance, and performance feedback to ensure capability growth and succession planning.
- Develop and implement training and development plans for engineers and technicians, including on-the-job training and system upgrades.
- Promote effective communication within the team and across departments to support aligned execution of mine plans.
- Oversee consultants, contractors, and external service providers to ensure delivery meets safety, quality, and operational expectations.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work closely with other departments to ensure integrated planning and execution.
- Support operational readiness, capital projects, and growth initiatives through strong technical input and coordination.
- Communicate mine plans, risks, and performance clearly to site leadership and relevant stakeholders to enable informed decision-making.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with other departments to support integrated mine planning and operational success.
- Attend and contribute actively to planning, safety, and production meetings
The ideal candidate will have:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 10 years’ progressively responsible experience in open-pit mining, including supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience in project management, contractor oversight, and operational budgeting is an advantage.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Willingness to work on a rotational schedule of 6 weeks on/ 3 weeks off.
Technical Knowledge & Skills
- Strong expertise in life-of-mine planning, mine design, drill and blast, fleet management, survey integration, and mine scheduling.
- Solid understanding of mine economics, budgeting, reserve and resource estimation, pit optimization, and cost modeling.
- Proficiency in mining and engineering software for pit optimisation, design, scheduling and operational efficiency, such as Minesight (MinePlan) and Whittle Optimisation. Including Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, Word, Projects & PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical data and translate it into practical, executable mine plans.
- Strong leadership, risk management, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across all organizational levels.
