Your Next Challenge
Agnico Eagle is one of the three largest paste backfill producers in the world. The mine Backfill project Engineer reports to the Principal Backfill Engineer and supports them by overseeing the development of study projects and operational support initiatives aimed at improving overall mining backfill practices. Working with clear timelines, you will ensure proper project follow-up and stakeholder coordination to deliver complex projects with the ultimate goal of optimizing binder and additive consumption.
It is important to highlight that Agnico Eagle is one of the largest binder consumers in Canada, and that approximately 20% of the operating costs of an underground mine are attributable to backfill. You will oversee the development, testing, and implementation of technical solutions and ensure that the final work meets the defined requirements. You will participate in technical documentation reviews, follow industry best practices in mining backfill, and make a significant impact by contributing to CAPEX and OPEX cost reduction efforts for backfill projects within AEM.
You will have to cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders across departments such as metallurgy, geology, engineering, environment, and innovation. The nature of the role requires active participation in several working groups at once, considering that Agnico Eagle operates 10 backfill plants and is in the process of constructing at least four additional ones. You will also be required to travel to various Agnico Eagle project sites and mines.
Specifically, You Will Be In Charge Of
- Project and schedule management related to mining backfill;
- Coordination of laboratory testing (test plan, purchase orders, technical follow-up, reporting, and presentation);
- Economic analysis related to mining backfill (CAPEX, OPEX) at the study level;
- Technical analysis of backfill strategies (flow model, required UCS, barricade design, mining method);
What You Need To Succeed
