About The Role
We are looking for an Underground
Superintendent – Dispatch to lead the Rio Tinto Kennecott Mine Operational Control team to maximize the potential of our mining equipment, resources and safety of our teams.
This role is a great opportunity to be immersed in and part of the mining process. As the leader of the team, you will be responsible for implementing a robust dispatch system aligned to aid in coordinating the production and operations of the underground mine activities.

Reporting to the Underground Operational Readiness Manager and working in a collaborative community, you will be
- Effectively operate and manage the fleet control system to meet production plans and manage mine delays.
- Responsible for implementing a robust dispatch system aligned with business needs.
- Data collection through the dispatch system.
- Management of the database integration with Rio Tinto Kennecott systems
- Development and Implementation of a continuous improvement process.
- Facilitate and support implementation of technologies into the underground data collection and communication systems as aligned with the Underground technology roadmap.
- Support implementation of SIC processes through dispatch system.
- Aid in the professional development and mentoring of your direct reports and others.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures
What You’ll Bring
To succeed in this role, you will have
- 7+ years experience in metalliferous underground mining.
- 5+ years of proven leadership experience.
- Knowledge of the key value drivers in the mining industry and project management skills with ability to deliver measurable outcomes.
- Experience on new projects/project ramp-up or extensions to existing projects.
- Experience managing safety improvement programs in a large company environment, focusing on Critical Risk Management and/or Fatality Prevention systems.
- The ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of functions and personalities across the organisation.
- Computer proficient in the Microsoft office Suite.
- Must possess high analytical skills and technical competencies
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to influence peers.
- Competency with computer software (Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Deswik, Groundhog, or Pitram systems, etc).
It will also be beneficial if you have
- Previous experience in a dispatch environment
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Mining, Engineering Mechanical, Metallurgical, Chemical, Industrial or related field.
- Experience with regulatory systems in the US, including federal agencies (e.g. MSHA, EPA, etc.)
- Longhole stoping experience

Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum, tellurium and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
