What You’ll Experience as a BHP Mining Graduate
Mining remains one of Australia’s most critical industries, and as a BHP Mining Graduate, you’ll be part of the teams that keep it moving safely and sustainably at Australia’s largest company. You’ll step right into our operations, helping to plan, optimise and deliver the resources that power infrastructure, technology and global supply chains. It’s meaningful, real‑world experience from day one.
As a Mining Graduate, you’ll gain exposure across the full mining value chain. Your work may include:
- Mine Planning & Scheduling – Supporting short-term and understand long-term mine plans. Designing pit layouts and learning how schedules translate into daily production.
- Field Time & Operational Exposure – Spending meaningful time in-pit or underground to understand equipment interactions, operational constraints, and how technical decisions play out on the ground. (Meet the requirements for WA Quarry Managers ticket for WA graduates).
- Safety & Risk Foundations – Building a deep understanding of hazard management, conducting risk assessments, and contributing to a culture where safety underpins every decision.
- Operational & Production Support – Working alongside supervisors to understand daily operations, analyse performance data, and contribute to safe and efficient production outcomes.
- Technical Projects & Continuous Improvement – Assisting with improvement initiatives, adopting new technologies, and helping optimise mining processes across our operations.
- Cross Functional Collaboration – Partnering with geology, geotechnical, processing, maintenance and operations teams to understand how disciplines integrate to support mine performance.
About the Role
The 24-month BHP Mining Graduate Program brings people together to learn, build capability and gain confidence for the future. You’ll build on the foundations you gained at university while developing skills that support a lifelong career.
From day one, you’ll have structured onboarding, guided learning paths and support from your graduate cohort, your buddy and leaders who are passionate about helping you grow. You’ll work on meaningful projects across resources, technology, decarbonisation and safe, sustainable operations, gaining hands on experience.

Depending on your discipline and preferred location, your role may be based in a residential community or operate on a Fly-in/Fly-out (FIFO) roster. Western Australia’s Iron Ore assets are primarily FIFO, Queensland’s Coal Operations are largely residential, and South Australia’s Copper Operations offer a mix of both.

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking graduates who are curious, strong problem solvers, strong communicators, analytical and committed to safety. You’ll be comfortable balancing field work with office‑based analysis, adaptable in dynamic environments, and motivated to solve complex problems with practical, real‑world outcomes. Strong communication skills, effective teamwork and a learning mindset are essential.
Degrees we consider (including but not limited to):
- Mining Engineering or equivalent
To be eligible, you must have graduated within the past two years or be due to graduate by the end of 2026 with a Mining Engineering degree (or a closely related discipline).
International students with a valid visa are welcome to apply. By February 2027, you must hold a visa with no work restrictions.
