IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to develop this “mine of the future”.
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
• Grade 12
• National Diploma or Degree in: Safety Management / Environmental Health / Risk Management
• SAMTRAC (Safety Management Training Course)
• COMSOC 1 & 2 (for mining safety environment)
• ISO 45001 awareness training
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
• 3–5 years’ experience in a mining environment, with exposure to mining administration processes
• Proven experience in contractor management support and contractor compliance
• Strong knowledge of MHSA, related regulations, and Section 37 contractor agreements
• Experience in SHE documentation control, safety systems, and applying auditing principles
• Audit coordination experience, including engagement with the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) during inspections
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
Ensuring legal compliance:• Ensure contractor compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and all applicable mining regulations
• Verify and maintain contractor documentation, including medical fitness certificates, training records, risk assessments, permits, certifications, Tax Clearance Certificates, Compensation Fund registration, and Letters of Good Standing
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date contractor records, safety files, and compliance databases.
• Conduct regular workplace visits to monitor contractor compliance and support effective health risk management
• Compile and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance reports in line with legal and organisational requirements
• Support Procurement, HR, SHEQ, and Legal teams by overseeing contractor governance, ensuring valid contracts, proper MHSA Section 37 appointments, and clear understanding of scope of work and responsibilities
• Conduct document and system audits, including verification of contractor safety files, expiry tracking (medical, insurance, training), and monitoring environmental and labour law compliance
Safety Risk Management:
•Reduce operational and safety risks by screening contractors prior to site access and confirming completion of required inductions and safety training
•Monitor contractor safety performance and ensure ongoing compliance with mine health and safety standards
•Coordinate incident reporting processes and drive the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Documentation and verification control:
•Maintain and manage the contractor compliance database, tracking expiry dates of medical certificates, insurance documents, safety files, and training certifications to ensure ongoing site compliance
Alignment with company policies and standards
•Ensure contractor alignment with company policies, procedures, and internal governance standards beyond statutory requirements
•Monitor compliance with environmental management, labour legislation, BBBEE requirements, security clearances, and the company code of conduct
