Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Maintenance Planning & Reliability Superintendent, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, availability, and regulatory compliance of underground stationary assets, with primary focus on shaft hoisting systems, headframe structures, and underground material handling infrastructure. This role provides technical leadership and reliability expertise for critical stationary assets including hoists, headframes, shafts, cages, skipping systems, underground muck circuits, truck loading chutes, loading pockets, rock breakers, conveyors, and associated infrastructure. This role supports safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the processing plant through engineering support, defect elimination, maintenance strategy development, and continuous improvement initiatives aligned with industry best practices, while consistently promoting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and environmental stewardship.
Safety, Risk, Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Act as a visible safety leader, promoting a zero-harm culture and strict compliance with all mining, hoisting, structural, and occupational safety regulations.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable legislation, codes, and standards governing shaft hoisting systems, headframes, conveyances, and underground infrastructure.
- Participate in risk assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), critical control verification, and engineering reviews for high-risk activities related to hoisting and underground stationary assets.
- Execute the Management of Change (MOC) process for equipment modifications, upgrades, temporary repairs, and structural interventions.
- Develop and maintain engineering standards, safe work procedures, and governance frameworks for stationary maintenance activities.
Technical Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as the technical subject matter expert for stationary mining infrastructure, including:
- Shaft hoisting systems and headframes
- Cages, skips, and conveyances
- Hoist mechanical systems and rope systems
- Underground muck circuits
- Truck loading chutes and loading pockets
- Rock breakers
- Conveyors and material handling systems
- Provide advanced troubleshooting, failure diagnostics, and engineering support to minimize downtime and production losses.
- Provide technical support to the defect elimination initiatives through Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Bad Actor Programs.
- Develop reliability strategies for critical stationary assets using Preventive, Predictive, and Condition-Based Maintenance methodologies.
- Support condition monitoring programs including vibration, oil analysis, structural inspections, and non-destructive testing.
Maintenance Strategy, Planning & Execution Support
- Develop and maintain maintenance strategies and task lists in the CMMS (SAP/JDE) for shaft and underground stationary systems.
- Review PM effectiveness and optimize intervals based on reliability data and failure modes.
- Provide engineering input for weekly planning, major shutdowns, shaft inspections, and critical maintenance campaigns.
- Develop detailed repair scopes and technical work packages, including procedures, lifting plans, access strategies, tooling requirements, and quality controls.
- Define safe and efficient methodologies for complex component replacements and constrained-access repairs in underground environments.
- Conduct asset condition assessments and develop corrective action plans for critical infrastructure.
Capital Projects & Operational Readiness
- Support CAPEX and sustaining projects related to shaft, hoisting, and underground infrastructure.
- Develop technical specifications and scopes of work for engineered equipment, structural upgrades, and system improvements.
- Ensure operational readiness for new or modified assets, including commissioning, testing, regulatory approvals, and transition to steady-state operation.
- Support procurement and vendor engagement for specialized engineered components and services.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Reliability, and Supply Chain teams to improve asset performance.
- Provide technical mentoring to engineers-in-training, planners, supervisors, and trades personnel.
- Prepare technical reports, engineering studies, and performance analyses for leadership teams.
- Interface with OEMs, consultants, and external engineering firms to resolve complex technical issues.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering;
- Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) is a requirement for this role;
- 5+ years of experience in heavy industrial environments such as shaft hoisting systems and headframes, conveyances (cages, skips), underground material handling systems, rock breakers and loading systems, conveyors and chutes, structural and mechanical systems in underground settings
- Authorized to review and stamp engineering drawings and technical documents;
- Knowledge and experience in proactive maintenance and reliability methodologies;
- Strong technical skills in troubleshooting, reading blueprint and interpreting schematic diagrams;
- Proven expertise in Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, Asset Criticality Assessment (ACA), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA);
- Analytical thinking, sense of urgency, attention to detail, and a strong focus on continuous improvement;
- Exposure to project management practices and capital project support;
- Solid understanding of fixed plant assets: Shaft hoisting systems and headframes, Conveyances (cages, skips), Underground material handling systems, Rock breakers and loading systems, Conveyors and chutes, Structural and mechanical systems in underground settings;
- Strong business acumen with the ability to link reliability initiatives to safety, production, and financial outcomes;
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with PI Historian / PI Vision and CMMS (SAP/JDE or equivalent);
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills;
- Advanced knowledge in statistical and probabilistic analysis, as well as engineering economics tools such as NPV, IRR and EAC.;
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
