This role will be located at the Copper World Project, approximately 45 minutes southwest of Tucson in Helvetia, Arizona.
Purpose of Role:
Reporting directly to the Mine Manager, the Project Manager will serve as the strategic lead for the Arizona Business Unit’s project portfolio. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle management of Mine Ops projects—from initial scope development and financial planning to construction oversight and final commissioning—ensuring all initiatives are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Strategic Project Leadership
- Portfolio Oversight: Direct the planning, scheduling, and execution of all approved Capital and Operating Projects for Mine Operations.
- Operational Readiness: Ensure seamless transitions from construction to commissioning, prioritizing "operational readiness" for all mine-site assets.
- Scope Development: Lead the creation of detailed Scopes of Work (SOW) for Mine Operation and Technical capital projects.
- Quality & Compliance: Oversee Engineering Quality Control and Assurance programs to ensure all projects meet Hudbay’s rigorous standards.
Contract & Financial Management
- Procurement Lead: Support the management of requisitions and lead both Technical and Commercial Evaluations for project-related bids.
- Budget Accountability: Manage contract budgets and analyze spend information to maximize business value.
- Continuous Service: Partner with the Contract team on demand planning, scope development, and issue management for long-term service contracts.
- Approval Authority: Validate and sign off on contractor time sheets and invoices to ensure services rendered align with contract terms.
Construction & Field Management
- Direct Supervision: Provide high-level coordination and direct supervision of contractors to ensure project efficiency and site-access compliance.
- Communication Hub: Lead Project Kick-off Meetings, Weekly Construction Meetings, and Safety Reviews.
- Onboarding: Ensure all contractors are properly integrated with Safety, Environmental, and Operational departments.
- Audit & Control: Perform comprehensive contractor audits focusing on quality, qualifications, and regulatory compliance.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
- Education: Degree or Diploma from a Community College or University in Engineering, Technical, or Trades discipline.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years (Project Manager level preferred) in project management, with specific experience in construction disciplines, particularly earthworks.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and grow a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong grasp of project management principles, procurement, scheduling, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Safety Excellence: Deep familiarity with MSHA regulations (current MSHA preferred) and the ability to evaluate safe work practices in the field.
- Mobility: Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have reliable transportation to the site (company vehicles provided for on-site travel).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Industry Experience: Previous experience working specifically within the mining or heavy construction industry.
