For British Columbia based roles the expected hourly salary is between $20/hour - $42/hour
About The Role
We are offering a 4-month (May to August 2026) Geology internship as part of the Rio Tinto Exploration team. This opportunity will allow you to be involved in several geoscience activities. Please note that relocation to Vancouver is not required for this role; however, this role includes several field rotations at grassroots field programs in Canada, as well as a hybrid arrangement of remote and office work between home and Rio Tinto’s Thunder Bay and Vancouver offices.
In this role
- Field-based exploration, field reconnaissance.
- Assist with geological and geotechnical core logging and sampling to collect pertinent data and ensure timely processing of samples.
- Conduct field work related to geological mapping, prospecting and diamond drilling.
- Work to high standards for quality assurance, quality control and data validation of for all geological data.
What You’ll Bring
- At least one year completed* of Geology, Earth Sciences or Geological Engineering
- Safety mindset
- Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead
- Flexibility and autonomy
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
- Valid driving license
- To be eligible for this internship, you must have the right to work in Canada.

Where will you be working
This role includes several field rotations in the Northwest Territories and Eastern Canada; the team also offers flexibility with a hybrid arrangement of remote and office work between home and Rio Tinto’s Thunder Bay and Vancouver offices. All travel expenses incurred as a result of this internship will be covered by Rio Tinto.
