Situated 10 kilometers west of picturesque Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

About The Role

Position Reports To: Supply Chain Superintendent
Position Overview
As an integral part of New Gold’s Supply Chain team, the Procurement Lead will lead a group of supply chain professionals responsible for contracts, purchasing, inventory, and asset disposal. The successful candidate is an experienced individual who is familiar with the acquisition of goods and services, strategic sourcing and competitive bidding, negotiating terms and conditions.
As Procurement Lead, you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing the procurement processes for goods and services critical to our mining operations. The Procurement Lead will be responsible for developing and/or assisting in the development and implementation of procurement strategies, negotiating agreements, and building strong relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, and suppliers. This role requires a deep understanding of the supply chain industry and the ability to navigate the unique challenges associated with procuring materials and services in the mining sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Staff assignments, development, evaluation, and performance management.
- Budgeting & personnel management
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with the Company’s goals and objectives.
- Identify current and future contracting opportunities with our SSN business partners.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while ensuring the quality and reliability of the procured materials and services.
- Initiate, implement and track cost savings and cost avoidance.
- Stay informed about market trends, supplier capabilities and industry developments to identify new opportunities and risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and develop procurement plans accordingly.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
- Evaluate supplier performance regularly and implement improvement plans as necessary.
- Lead negotiations for goods and services, ensuring favourable terms, pricing and conditions for the company.
- Collaborate with legal and other relevant departments to review and finalize contractual agreements as required.
- Implement and maintain ethical sourcing practices.
- Coordinate daily acquisition of goods and services.
- Drafting and issuing Change Orders for goods and services.
- Leading and supporting the evaluation and contract award process.
- Running expediting meetings with key suppliers including taking minutes.
- Liaise between engineering consultants, contractors, site operations and technical personnel.
- Maintenance of agreement tracking and other reporting tools.
- Other duties as assigned.

In Addition, The Successful Candidate Will Possess
- Post-Secondary degree or courses specific to Supply Chain Management or Contract Management is preferred.
- SCMP designation certificate (or similar/related) is an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years of purchasing experience in a buyer or contract administrator role, preferably in the mining or construction industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a proven team leader.
- Solid understanding and experience in the RFP/RFQ process.
- Ability to handle large volume of work and multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Good MS Office and Adobe Acrobat skills.
- SAP, S/4HANA, Ariba and SharePoint experience preferred
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position is between $108,500 and $135,500. A competitive performance bonus plan and benefits will be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
