New Afton Mine
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. Position Reports To: Supply Chain Superintendent
Position Overview
The Inventory Controller is responsible for the accurate management, control, and optimization of inventory to support the mine site’s operations. This role ensures that critical spares, parts ,and consumables are available to support uninterrupted production, while minimizing carryings costs and obsolescence. The Inventory Controller works closely with Maintenance, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to align inventory levels with operational requirements and inventory policies.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management & Optimization:
- Maintain inventory management strategies based on usage, lead times, and criticality
- Coordinate regular cycle counts and periodic physical inventories, investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Monitor slow-moving and obsolete inventory and recommend disposal strategies
- Assist Procurement in establishing inventory contracts and price agreements
Process Management
- Oversee the Inventory Change Request (ICR) process
- Oversee the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) process
- Oversee repairable inventory rebuild process
- Maintain the material master database naming convention standards
- Maintain accurate documentation for inventory transactions, adjustments, and transfers
- Coordinate with Warehouse personnel to ensure accurate receiving, issuing, and inspection of inventory items
Operational Support
- Interface with end-user groups to ensure timely availability of materials and update material requirement forecasts
- Support planned shutdowns and major maintenance activities with advance inventory planning
Leadership
- Supervision, mentoring and coaching of Inventory Analyst, including performance and development planning
- Contribute to site safety improvements and programs
- Identify opportunities to improve inventory processes, accuracy, and cost efficiency
Reporting & Compliance
- Utilize SAP S/4HANA to track inventory movements and balances, measure inventory performance
- Generate inventory reports including stock levels, turnover, variances, obsolescence, and critical item availability
- Support audits by ensuring inventory controls and records meet Company and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Degree, diploma or certificate in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in an inventory management and warehousing environment, with direct heavy-industry experience
- Strong understanding of inventory control principles
- Proven ability to mentor peers and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy, analytical mindset, business acumen, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience working within SAP S4/HANA, or equivalent ERP systems and advanced MS Excel skills.
- Strong mechanical background with a good understanding of spare parts for heavy mobile and plant equipment.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
- Completion of pre-placement functional screen
- Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
- Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $90,000 to $110,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
