Job Description
The primary role of the Quality Lead is to develop and oversee the site’s quality management plan, as it applies to the construction and development of all facilities, infrastructure, and excavations both on the surface and
underground.
Responsibilities
- Complies with and ensure compliance with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in the
appropriate manuals, handbooks, directives, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Responsible to keep work areas safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
- Ensure all systems and procedures are in place for safe, productive, and a high-quality work.
- Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive quality assurance strategy for the construction project.
- Create quality assurance plans and procedures in alignment with industry standards and client specifications.
- Oversee quality control activities across all phases of the construction project, including the shaft
sinking plant and mine shafts.
- Ensure that construction and sinking processes adhere to approved quality standards and regulations.
- Maintain and manage all quality control documentation and records, ensuring they are accurate and up to date.
- Verify compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and contractual obligations, as specified by South32.
- Plan and conduct regular inspections, audits, and testing of construction materials, equipment, and
workmanship to identify non-conformities.
- Coordinate with Construction QC Tech and Shaft QC Tech to ensure inspections are carried out promptly and effectively.
- Identify and report non-conformances and deviations from quality standards.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to address issues and prevent their recurrence.
- Evaluate and monitor the performance of vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure they meet
quality requirements.
- Work with procurement to ensure materials and services meet the specified quality standards.
- Maintain open and transparent communication with South32 regarding quality-related matters, including progress, issues, and resolutions.
- Provide training and guidance to the Construction QC Tech and Shaft QC Tech to enhance their
understanding of quality control procedures and standards.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall project quality and efficiency.
- Analize quality metrics and data to identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare and submit regular quality assurance reports to the engineering manager and other stakeholders.
- Document and report key performance indicators related to quality.

- Ensure that quality assurance activities are carried out within the project's budget constraints.
- Complete any tasks, assignments, or requests of the Engineering Manager.
- If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
- Comply with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality with respect to Redpath and client information.
- Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
- Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Education
QUALIFICATIONS
- Mining/Civil Engineering Bachelors Degree (4 years or greater required) preferred but not required.
Work Experience
- 5-10 years’ experience in a quality role is preferred, ideally around underground mine sites.
Knowledge Required
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively.
- Ability to safely use and handle a variety of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently.
- Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil work, structural work, rock excavation work).
- Ability to work as part of a project planning team.
- Previous quality experience is required.
- MSHA Underground miner training would be considered an asset.
- Underground Mining experience would be an asset as would knowledge of applicable mine regulations
pertaining to construction in mining.
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe
and efficient manner.
