About the role:
Reporting to the Manager, Water Operations, the Superintendent, Maintenance is responsible for building, leading, and developing the Water Operations Maintenance team. This team provides maintenance services for all of EVR’s Elk Valley water treatment facilities. Water Operations has grown from a single facility in 2015 to four operating plants with a combined treatment capacity of 97,500 m³/d, with projects underway that will increase capacity to 127,500 m³/d by the end of 2026.
The Superintendent, Maintenance leads the team that delivers day‑to‑day maintenance support for existing operations and plays a key role in the startup and commissioning of new facilities and expansions. This role also oversees the Reliability team, responsible for long‑term asset performance, maintenance planning, and continuous improvement of maintenance systems and standards. A strong background in maintenance execution, reliability engineering, and process plant operations is essential.

Responsibilities:
- Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
- Provide leadership, coaching, and development to maintenance and reliability personnel
- Oversee maintenance planning and execution in partnership with facility operations to balance reliability, performance, and cost
- Implement consistent, efficient maintenance systems and practices across Water Operations
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure new facilities meet maintainability and reliability expectations
- Ensure operational readiness deliverables are completed for smooth handover from project teams
- Deliver maintenance-led projects with strong performance in safety, environment, schedule, cost, and quality
- Manage maintenance operating and capital budgets, including the five‑year budget cycle and life-of-asset planning
- Establish and track key performance indicators such as equipment availability, MTBF, MTTR, and cost performance
- Support capital planning and long‑term asset lifecycle management
- Work closely with operations, engineering, and environmental teams to align maintenance priorities with production needs
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting obligations
- Lead or support implementation of new technologies, CMMS improvements, and digital tools
- Optimize maintenance spending through effective planning and risk‑based decision‑making
- Oversee contractor performance and ensure alignment with site standards
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or a related discipline preferred)
- Minimum of nine years of maintenance experience in industrial or process plant environments
- Proven leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated project management experience in industrial operations
- Registered, or eligible for registration, with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (P.Eng.)
- Trade certification or equivalent technical background is considered an asset
- Strong understanding of maintenance and reliability principles
- Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS) and related tools
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or equivalent
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
