Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Regional Finance & Strategy Manager, you will be part of the Finance Department. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
Capital Request Leadership & Business Case Quality
- Actively drive capital efficiency and value optimization by challenging assumptions, identifying alternatives, and ensuring alignment between site-level initiatives and corporate strategy;
- Lead the operational departments in the preparation of capital requests (budgeted/unbudgeted) to ensure submissions are timely and accurate, and of investment grade quality while understanding the business drivers behind them;
- Ensure that interaction between departments at site take place when a business case requires it and to avoid duplication;
- Ensure business cases submitted are complete, include alternatives as well as relevant accompanying documentation;
- Ensure that new stakeholders having to submit capital requests are duly trained to use the business case form and associated systems;
- Ensure consistent, best cost estimation practices are used in submitted business cases;
- Develop and maintain a yearly calendar pertaining to the capital allocation process that will allow the regular and gradual submission of business cases throughout the year. Ensure that the calendar aligns with the Capital Allocation Policy and is followed by all departments.
Multi-Year Capital Planning & Forecasting
- Facilitate the three-year base plan capital planning, with the objective of improving its accuracy;
- Maintain a live capital initiative register with stage gates, forecasted spend and prioritization of projects at site;
- Identify potential capital optimizations and reduction opportunities, and work with site teams to achieve these initiatives;
- Utilize robust knowledge of the medium-to-long term site mine plans to identify potential short-term capital overruns compared to LOM and/or Forecast.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze financial data to support decision-making on capital investments;
- Provide variance reports (monthly, quarterly, yearly) for Actual/Budget/Forecast in alignment with Corporate Finance requirements:
- Variance decomposition (price vs. quantity vs. timing)
- Trend analysis
- Highlighting capital efficiency opportunities based on benchmarks
- Tracking of business case status.
Collaboration
- Act as the main point of contact between site and Corporate with regards to capital allocation, inclusive of the Corporate review process requirements;
- Actively participate in quarterly meetings with Corporate and other site champions to discuss best practises and potential process improvements.
Compliance
- Stay abreast of financial changes (chart of account, accounting adjustments, etc.) implemented at AEM in order to properly reflect these in the capital requests as necessary;
- Remain aware of changes to the scope and nature of the Capital Allocation Policy (i.e. system implementations, updated review thresholds, changes to the business case form etc.);
- Assist in identifying gaps and areas for improvement in the capital allocation process.
What You Need To Succeed
- 10+ years of experience in mine operations with exposure to the full planning cycle;
- Strong analytical and financial modeling capabilities;
- Understanding of capital cost estimation, project evaluation, and multi‑year planning;
- Proficiency with corporate financial systems and reporting tools;
- Knowledge of mine planning, project lifecycle, or operational cost structures is considered essential;
- Cross-functional credibility;
- Ability to challenge assumptions constructively and influence decision‑making;
- Proven ability to coordinate cross‑functional input and drive deadlines.
Your Work Schedule
- Schedule: 40 hours per week, from Monday to Friday at our Timmins Regional Office or one of our satellite offices in Kirkland Lake, and Sudbury;
- This role is eligible for the Ontario Regional Teleworking Policy.
