Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Superintendent, Environment, Health and Safety, you will be part of the Health & Safety Department. You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Health & Safety department, including emergency response teams, clinic personnel, and site security.
- Lead the development of a strong, proactive Health & Safety culture, inspiring teams to work safely and think safety-first every day.
- Champion a strategic, risk‑focused approach to safety—emphasizing critical controls, leading indicators, high‑quality investigations, and meaningful safety data to drive incident reduction.
- Foster a safe and inclusive work environment for all employees, contractors, and visitors across the division.
- Drive continuous improvement by enhancing Health & Safety programs, systems, and procedures to elevate overall performance.
- Develop, implement, and monitor controls to ensure full compliance with the Nunavut Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
- Stay ahead of regulatory changes, ensuring timely updates to internal processes and clear action plans for implementation.
- Offer strong Health & Safety leadership, coaching, and guidance, empowering teams to take ownership of safety.
- Maintain and strengthen business continuity, crisis response, and emergency management plans and procedures.
- Ensure consistent execution of site safety inspections, including hazard analyses, safe work procedures, and clear reporting with actionable recommendations.
- Oversee thorough incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented effectively.
- Play a key leadership role in the division’s risk management framework, helping anticipate, assess, and mitigate operational risks.
What You Need To Succeed
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Science, or related field;
- 10+ years of Health & Safety experience (mining and underground experience preferred).
- Certificate in Occupational/Organizational Health & Safety and/or CRSP designation is considered an asset;
- Experience in accident/incident management;
- Strong ability to prioritize, lead teams, and manage multiple projects effectively;
- Good knowledge of industrial hygiene and experience with Health and Safety Management Systems (ISO, OHSA, TSM);
- Experience with workers’ compensation claims and emergency response (surface/underground) are considered an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Note that the official working language at our Hope Bay Project is English.
Your Work Schedule
- Schedule: 21 days of work, followed by 21 days for transportation and rest (7x7, 10x10, or 14x14 schedule is also a possibility);
- Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides charter flights to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
