It is a fly-in, fly-out operation with a strong focus on safety, reliability and delivering a consistent experience for a large on-site workforce in a challenging environment.
Your impact
Reporting to the Superintendent Exploration, you will lead a team of geologists to advance geological understanding and discovery potential across Tanami’s near-mine and brownfields portfolio.
This role is critical to replacing and growing mineral reserves, ensuring exploration programs are executed safely, efficiently and in alignment with site plans during a significant period of operational transformation. - Coordinate contractor and drilling activities to ensure delivery to plan, budget and standards
- Contribute to joint venture exploration activities and stakeholder engagement
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and Newmont procedures
- Support planning, budgeting and continuous improvement of exploration programs
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Sound knowledge of safety, compliance and regulatory requirements in mining environments
- Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
- Demonstrated experience in gold exploration, ideally within orogenic gold systems
- Proven ability to lead and develop technical teams in a mining or exploration environment
- Strong understanding of UG and surface drilling programs and the practical challenges of execution (including access and platform availability)
- Ability to work cross-functionally with mining, planning and engineering stakeholders
- Experience managing exploration programs, contractors and performance against plans
- Strong geological interpretation, data analysis and reporting capability
- Familiarity with database management, QA/QC and tools such as Leapfrog and IOGas (Vulcan and SQL capability advantageous)
Your work environment
This is a permanent FIFO role on an 8 days on / 6 days off roster, supporting a continuous exploration program at site. Flights are typically provided from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin or Alice Springs, with site conditions reflective of a remote mining operation in the Northern Territory.
Tanami Exploration is entering a growth phase, with increased drilling activity and major operational changes driven by the development of new infrastructure. This creates a dynamic and fast-paced environment with strong opportunities for career progression.
