About The Role
As part of the RTAL Global Capability Development team, this role contributes to advancing learning, future skills, talent, and culture across Rio Tinto Aluminum & Lithium.
We are looking for a Specialist Capability Excellence to lead the unification, governance, and optimization of capability systems, ensuring strong data integrity while providing subject matter expertise to the global capability community across Aluminum & Lithium. This role plays a critical part in enabling consistent, reliable capability data that supports informed decision‑making at all levels of the organization.
With a strong focus on learning, future skills, talent, and culture, this is an excellent opportunity for a data‑driven, detail‑oriented, and highly collaborative professional to influence capability excellence at scale. You will work across regions and functions, partnering with stakeholders globally to strengthen systems, streamline processes, and support a more integrated and future‑focused capability ecosystem.
Reporting to the
Manager – Capability Excellence and working in a challenging and exciting environment, you will
- Provide expert guidance and best practice to the capability and HR community across RTAL for effective use of HR, learning technologies and data systems.
- Develop training resources to enhance system knowledge and reporting skills for end users
- Oversee system upgrades, assess project needs, and implement solutions to improve capability outcomes.
- Work with various teams to identify opportunities and implement solutions that enhance learning workflows, system integrations and automation.
- Maintain high data accuracy within capability and learning management systems ensuring all records are complete, updated and aligned with organisational needs across RTAL globally
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards, maintaining best practices in data governance and record management principles
- Extract, analyse and present capability data to provide insights on effectiveness, compliance and skill development trends. Develop comprehensive reports and dashboards using tools like Power BI, SQL, and Crystal Reports to support data-driven decision making
- Identifying opportunities for system/process enhancements, working with the AoE and regional capability teams to deliver fit-for-purpose solutions
About You
- A strong commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a relevant field
- Strong experience working with capability, HR or learning systems, including learning management systems and data integration platforms
- Solid data analytics and reporting skills, with experience using tools such as SQL, Power BI or similar BI solutions
- Ability to analyze, streamline and improve workflows, with a focus on data quality, governance and consistency
- Proven experience supporting the transition from manual or Excel‑based processes to more structured, integrated and scalable solutions
- Strong communication, collaboration and training skills, with the ability to provide guidance to a diverse stakeholder group
- A global mindset, focused on enabling a unified and consistent approach to capability systems across RTAL
- Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken, required due to regular collaboration with global teams and partners
- Knowledge of French is considered an asset
