Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Environmental Superintendent, the purpose
of the Environmental Technician is supporting environmental monitoring programs
through accurate, safe field data collection with complete, timely data entry
in accordance with established procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Environmental Monitoring & Field Execution:
·Collect field
data and samples as part of environmental monitoring programs (e.g., water
quality sampling, groundwater monitoring, bird surveys, wildlife observations,
vegetation or invasive plant surveys)
·Complete
chain of custody documentation and prepare, package, and ship samples to
laboratories
Enter field data accurately and in a timely manner, including preliminary
quality checks for completeness, legibility, and adherence to procedures
·Calibrate,
install, maintain, and prepare field sampling and monitoring equipment to
ensure readiness for scheduled programs
·Carry out
field activities in accordance with environmental management plans, including
inspecting controls (e.g., erosion and sediment controls, spill containment,
wildlife deterrents) and reporting any issues or deficiencies
·Maintain
organized environmental records and field notes, including logs, photos, GPS
data, and transfer of information to the Environmental Superintendent
·Support
field logistics, including equipment staging and preparation of sampling
equipment and kits
- Compliance & Environmental Management System:
·Conduct field inspections to support
permit compliance and EMS requirements, identifying, documenting, and
communicating deficiencies
·Support development and
implementation of inspection programs and field checklists based on permit and
management plan requirements
·Support development and updates of
standard operating procedures (SOPs) by providing field input and practical
feedback
·Support incident and spill
prevention and response, including field response activities (e.g., deploying
spill kits, containing releases), documentation (photos, field notes), and
completion of required forms
·Deliver field-level training and
awareness to site staff on environmental practices (e.g., spill prevention,
wildlife interactions, waste management)
·Compile and organize field data and
supporting information (e.g., inspection records, photos, GPS data) to support
compliance reporting and internal summaries
·Research and compile environmental
information as requested by the Environmental Superintendent
Qualifications:
- Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in
environmental monitoring or science, biology, or related field from an
accredited college or university
- 1-4
years experience in an environmental monitoring discipline.
- Experience working outdoors in northern or remote
environments, with the ability to work independently in inclement weather
and safely navigate uneven, sloped, rocky, wet, or icy terrain.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications,
including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Valid
Class 5 Driver’s License.
Skills and Experience:
- Valid First Aid certificate is an asset.
- Professional accreditation an asset (AB Tech, RB Tech,
RP Bio, P. Bio, P.Ag, P.Geo, EIT)
- Adhere to safety and sustainability policies and
procedures.
- Promote environmental awareness and best practices
among site personnel.
Work Location & Conditions:
·Location: Yukon Territories, Canada
·Remote-based role with preference for
Yukon-based candidates; periodic travel to the Yukon and Vancouver required.
·Rotation: Two-week on / 2-week off rotation at
the Coffee Gold Project.
·Physical requirements: Ability to safely lift and carry 50 lbs on a regular basis.
Expected Compensation: Base salary Starting at
$100,000 CAD per year
