Key Responsibilities
Compliance and Governance
The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
Ensure compliance with Electrical engineering codes, safety standards, and relevant company procedures.
Coaching and Training
Provide on-the-job coaching to the electrical artisans and technicians according to the needs identified in the electrical section of the engineering department.
Use ‘On the job’ coaching as the primary method, supported by formal training modules in collaboration with the KMP Training Department
Prepare training materials for the delivery of the training and coaching.
Deliver structured training sessions based on identified skills gaps
Technical Oversight
Ability to role model good practice and create a continuous learning environment, using coaching methodologies and various instructional techniques identified via training needs assessments or observations
Champion quality and provide visible leadership ‘on-the-floor’ in Kansanshi Smelter operations
Support fault diagnosis and corrective actions to minimize downtimes through coaching
Ensure compliance with electrical codes, safety standards and relevant company procedures
Learner Engagement, Assessments and Performance Monitoring
Use effective listening, assertiveness and questioning to support learners to engage with their learning plans and assessment criteria and processes
Use assessments and observations to identify skill gaps; create and deliver suitable interventions and follow-up to assess their impact
Design and complete assessments considering feedback from other FQM sites and operations using the Proficiency Framework
Act as independent assessor for other FQM operations running the proficiency framework program
Identify high potential Artisans with ability and aspiration to progress to more senior roles and support their development
Record interventions, assigned actions and progress using the learning management tools provided by the company
Frequently evaluate and report on the impact and effectiveness of the ongoing initiatives; make improvements as needed
Work closely with the training department to define training needs based on completed assessments
Leadership and Culture
Provide feedback on the coaching interventions, observation and results to Supervisors and Senior Supervisors on opportunities to improve the artisan skills gaps.
Create a coaching culture across the organization and upskill the coaching methodologies
Recognize and celebrate achievements and success in the team; provide candid feedback, engage at all levels and lead with a People First mindset
Collaborate with the supervisory staff and HR to align coaching with the organizational goals and needs.
Qualifications
Full grade twelve (G12) school certificate.
Minimum of Technicians Certificate in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Qualification according to the local regulations, for example "HV Switching" etc
Valid EIZ license.
All qualifications must be certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
Coaching Experience
3 – 5 years Demonstrable coaching experience (or a formal coaching certification) in workforce upskilling, including deployment and execution of a coaching program within an organization
Proven ability to foster a coaching culture, mentor artisans and technicians and embed a culture of continuous learning
Technical and Maintenance Experience
A minimum of 10-15 years’ maintenance experience in fixed plant maintenance within mineral processing operations, with 3 – 5 years at supervisory level. The ideal candidate will have experience across all Process plant sections (Filter Plant, Material Handling Plant, Oxygen Plant, Primary and Secondary Plants, Acid Plant, Water Treatment Plants, Blowers and Compressor Plants), and able to carry out Electrical, instrumentation & automation break-down diagnosis, with the support of specialists, when required.
Ability to manage inspection and maintenance of Electrical Equipment (Transformers, Motors, MV/LV, VSD’s, HVAC, Fire Suppression Systems, Generators, Un-interruptible Power Systems, Battery Tripping Unit, Switchgears and MCC’s for OHTC, Hoists, Conveyors, Wet and Dry ESPs, Pumps, Blowers and Compressors)
Define & implement repair solutions, and carry out such tests as Insulation Resistance Test, Polarization Index, CT Burden Test, CT Excitation Test, CT Magnetisation Test, CT Primary Injection Test, Ratio Test, Winding Resistance Test, Hi Pot Test, Contact Resistance Test, Grounding Resistance, UT and Thermography and ELCB function tests.
Able to Program SEPAM using SFT2285/2841 Software, Little Fuse – SE330, Woodward controller, Deep Sea DSE 7320MKII and DSE 8610 controllers, Schneider MV VSD Controller Twido, Danfoss/Siemens/ABB/SEW/AISTAR VSD’s, Siemens Soft Starters, SIMOCODE, Residual Current Monitoring Module, Abus Electronic load Monitor, Atlas Copco Controller for Air Dryer and Donaldson controller for Nitrogen Dryer, Coromatic Controller for Dry ESP and Siemens Outotec Controller for Wet ESP.
Knowledge in the use of Electrical Transient Analyzer Program (ETAP) software and familiar on fault calculations for different types of electrical faults in power systems (Single line to ground, Line to line, Double line to ground and Three phase fault)
Can manage isolation/de-isolation of HV operated machines and equipment.
Ability to use condition monitoring Healthy Analyzers, SCADA and other tools to pin point root cause of performance deviations
Knowledge of Electrical Dynamic Testing (ESA – Electrical Signature Analysis, MCA – Motor Current Analysis, MCSA – Motor Current Signature Analysis, CSA – Current Signature Analysis, CSA – Current Spectrum Analysis)
Electrical Motor Diagnostics (EMD), and Static Diagnostics (electricity, resistance, capacitance and Inductance measurement)
In-Rush Current Analysis, Frequency Spectrum,
Transformer Oil Analysis, Transformer Failure Causes, On-Line Maintenance, Running Checks, and Off-Line Maintenance,
Power Analysis, including the load, efficiency and power factor of the motor and other inductive loads.
Define adequate maintenance and operating conditions for the equipment (drives, etc.)
Able to interpret the results of vibration analysis, Thermography, and other condition based maintenance information.
Can manage circuit/system modification & testing the modified circuit/system for compliance with specifications and requirements, can update all documents and drawings to reflect the modifications.
Experience working for an OEM is preferred (or similar role that has given deep experience of equipment)
Experience with standard maintenance reliability processes – five whys, FMECA, RCMs, RbM, etc.
Systems and Tools
Experience with the use of computerized maintenance management systems – Pronto preferred
Solid computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.
Experience with working with learning management systems (LMS)
