Key Responsibilities
Compliance and Governance
The incumbent will be required to adhere to all relevant requirements, policies, procedures and legal regulations pertaining to health, safety, environment, and quality, as well as finance, human resources, and any other regulations as required by the company and relevant to the level of the role and responsibilities of the function.
Ensure compliance with mechanical codes, safety standards, and relevant company procedures.
Coaching and Training
Provide on-the-job coaching to the H.E.R technicians and Rigging artisans and tradesmen according to the needs identified in the engineering department for these roles.
Use ‘On the job’ coaching as the primary method, supported by formal training modules in collaboration with the KMP Training Department
Prepare training materials for the delivery of the training and coaching.
Deliver structured training sessions based on identified skills gaps
Technical Oversight
Ability to role model good practice and create a continuous learning environment, using coaching methodologies and various instructional techniques identified via training needs assessments or observations
Champion quality and provide visible leadership ‘on-the-floor’ in Kansanshi Smelter operations
Support fault diagnosis and corrective actions to minimize downtimes through coaching
Ensure compliance with engineering codes, safety standards and relevant company procedures
Learner Engagement, Assessments and Performance Monitoring
Use effective listening, assertiveness and questioning to support learners to engage with their learning plans and assessment criteria and processes
Use assessments and observations to identify skill gaps; create and deliver suitable interventions and follow-up to assess their impact
Design and complete assessments based on the FQM sites and operations running the Proficiency Framework
Act as independent assessor for other FQM operations running the proficiency framework program
Identify high potential Artisans with ability and aspiration to progress to more senior roles and support their development
Record interventions, assigned actions and progress using the learning management tools provided by the company
Frequently evaluate and report on the impact and effectiveness of the ongoing initiatives; make improvements as needed
Work closely with the training department to define training needs based on completed assessments
Leadership and Culture
Provide feedback on the coaching interventions, observation and results to Supervisors and Senior Supervisors on opportunities to improve the artisan skills gaps.
Create a coaching culture across the organization and upskill the coaching methodologies.
Recognize and celebrate achievements and success in the team; provide candid feedback, engage at all levels and lead with a People First mind-set.
Collaborate with the supervisory staff and HR to align coaching with the organizational goals and needs.
Qualifications
Full grade twelve (G12) school certificate.
Minimum of a Craft Certificate or Equivalent in Diesel Mechanics.
A formal Rigging Qualification will be an added advantage.
Minimum of Specialist Training from a recognized Heavy Mobile Equipment OEM such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, or Liebherr.
All qualifications must be certified by Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA)
Experience
Coaching Experience
A minimum of 5 years’ demonstrable coaching experience (or a formal coaching certification) in workforce upskilling, including deployment and execution of skills development programs within an organization.
Proven ability to foster a coaching culture, mentor artisans and a embed a continuous learning culture.
Technical and Maintenance Experience
A minimum of 10 years’ hands-on maintenance experience in Heavy Mobile Equipment Maintenance in a mining operation, with 3 – 5 years at Supervisory Level, working with such equipment as excavators, haul tracks, bulldozers, loaders, etc.
Essential knowledge and experience in Rigging activities at various levels.
Knowledge and application of safety in a mining environment or similar.

Strong diagnostic and Troubleshooting skills – advising on complex repairs using structured troubleshooting techniques.
Experience with standard reliability maintenance processes and KPIs – RCAs, MTBF, MTTR, FMECA
Systems and Tools
Experience with the use of a computerized maintenance management system (such as PRONTO)
Solid computer skills including use of MS Office (Word, Excel & Outlook), with a willingness to learn new software programs.
Experience with working with learning management systems (LMS)

Demonstrats a strong commitment for coaching and development – this role requires individuals with deep technical knowledge in mining mobile equipment maintenance with the ability to transfer that knowledge effectively through on-the-job coaching and mentoring.

Possess a well-developed interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Listens actively, asks insightful questions and inspires engagement from the leaners, with the ability to explain technical concepts in a non-complicated way.
