About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a
Superintendent, Mine Engineering to join our Mount Milligan Mine team.
The Superintendent of Mine Engineering is responsible for directing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating various program areas at the Mount Milligan Operations. The Superintendent Mine Engineering is expected to provide strong leadership inspiring the mine engineering team to create a safe, motivated and productive environment which leads to innovative continuous improvement.
The successful Superintendent of Mine Engineering is an experienced mining professional with at least ten years of mine engineering experience, including at least five years as a Senior Mine Engineer or Senior Production Engineer of a significant open pit mine operation. He/she also brings a deep understanding of innovation and industry-leading best practices, along with an established reputation for operating within a culture committed to safety, to environmentally sustainable operations, and to operating in a socially responsible manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Auditing, monitoring and identifying improvements of planning systems and projects.
- Assisting in the formulation of mining production strategies, policies and plans.
- Planning production schedules, labour and material input requirements to meet output quantity, quality and timing specifications.
- Assisting in the development of sound strategic plans and life of mine schedules.
- Jointly responsible for developing the annual ore reserve estimate with the Superintendent Geology.
- Building trusting relationships with the Mine Operations Manager and the senior leadership team at the mine operation.
- Ensuring the mine’s production adheres to the Company’s standards of health, safety, and sustainability.
- Mine planning and the maintenance of long and short term mine plans to ensure the lowest unit cost, adhere to highest safety standards and increase profit margins where possible.
- Designing and control of detailed schedules and layouts, sending to operations to ensure implementation and initiatives are carried out as required.
- Ensuring accurate modelling and reporting to improve efficiency and cost control.
- Running and coordinating project management processes for the site in order to lead mine improvement projects.
About You
Our ideal candidate will possess the following skillset and experience:
- Ten years minimum experience in Open Pit Mining is required, some of which must be in an operating role.
- Specific experience in ore reserve estimation, pit optimization, and LOM planning, Tailings Storage Facility planning and construction is required.
- Proven experience in developing strategies involving multi-disciplinary issues is required.
- Must demonstrate competency in 3D mine design software; HxGN MinePlan.
- Competency running Pit Optimization program (Whittle, MSEP etc.) and application of optimization technique.
- Experience with open pit mine design, planning and evaluation and a solid understanding of the strategic planning which entails to Mine / Pit Optimization.
- Previous fleet management experience would be advantageous.
- Undergraduate degree in Mine Engineering.
- Currently registered as a Professional Engineer in good standing with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia Personal.
- Superior interpersonal and relationship-building abilities and the capacity to work independently and in a team environment with people of all levels.

Working Conditions
- Camp-based role working 12-hour days on a 14 day on, 14 day off rotation, with accommodation provided during rotation (flexible alternative schedules to be considered such as a 7 day on, 7 day off rotation, etc.).
- Exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, heavy equipment, noise, and moving parts.
- PPE always required.
- Safety-sensitive environment with zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy.
- Bus transportation provided from regional locations.
