New Afton
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 105,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. About The Role
Schedule: 7 on, 7 off, 12 hour shift, rotating days and nights.
Position Reports To: Mill Operations Supervisor
Position Overview: Safely operate mill processing circuits to meet production targets. The Mill Operator will actively pursue development in the mill operations progression program to become a proficient Mill Operator 1. Required progression through level 3, and 2, with increasing skill and responsibility at each level.
Key Responsibilities
- Dedication to safety, environment, maintenance, production, and productivity.
- Operating and monitoring various circuits in the processing plant as required by the supervisor. Circuits include: Control room, Grinding, Flotation, Dewatering and Tailings. Routine changing of circuits as directed by the supervisor will be required to gain experience and be familiar with changes in plant operation.
- Develop an understanding of all the mill circuits through training, reading, and hands-on experience and focusing on progressing through the mill operator proficiency system.
- Identify maintenance problems and maintain acceptable housekeeping in designated area.
- Work at heights and in confined space, operate mobile equipment and overhead crane as required.
- Other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of 1 year mineral processing experience (Industrial Processing Environment) or 4 months New Afton processing experience
- Experience in operational circuits like New Afton mill operations (Grinding, Dewatering, Flotation, Tailings, Control room)
- Eagerness and commitment to learn and develop through the mill operator progression system
- Knowledge of DCS control systems. Preference will be given to candidates with control room experience in DeltaV and flotation circuits
- Ability to be flexible in job tasks and responsibilities so that work is balanced between team members
- Demonstrated ability to share knowledge gained with others and the ability to solve problems
- High mechanical aptitude and proven troubleshooting capabilities
- Experience as a leader is highly desirable
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $80,000 to $90,000. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
