Job Description
As
Specialist Technical Accountant you will provide services as required and your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Consistently apply Safety and Health principles in all team interactions and take personal responsibility for the safety of self and others to ensure zero harm and elimination of fatalities.
- Monitor, research and share developments in financial accounting and reporting, especially regarding the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS Accounting Standards) and drive implementation of new standards for the group.
- Provide guidance to the group’s businesses on the correct IFRS accounting treatment for transactions or agreements.
- Preparation of technical accounting assessment on complex transactions
- Ensure compliance with the latest approved accounting and reporting regime (Kumba and Group), regulations and legislation.
- Evaluate and assess the implications for internal accounting and reporting processes and prepare recommendations for developed/obtained solutions and proposed system, policies, and procedure changes.
- Propose projects to automate and standardise transactional accounting throughout Kumba. Drive them once approved.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements and related reports for the group entities.
- Preparation of significant accounting matters memorandum to the Kumba Executive Committee, Audit Committee, Boards and Anglo American.
- Use data analytics to derive insights from financial data to inform decision-making and identify trends.
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting processes to ensure alignment with accounting standards and financial reporting.
This role is in the Finance (FIN) at a Band 6 level (D4/D5 Grade) reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- NQF 7 Degree in Finance/Commercial/Business Accounting/Economics
- NQF 8 Postgraduate Degree in Finance/Commercial/Business Accounting/Economics is preferred
- CA (SA) registered professional
- Valid SA Drivers licence
Experience
- 6-8 years of experience in Accounting, preferably gained in IFRS Technical from a corporate environment within a mining/resources company or one of the big audit or accounting firms.
- Awareness of how accounting processes interface with and impact other teams within the Finance department.
- Experienced in preparing consolidated financial statements for a JSE listed entity, accurately and efficiently.
- In-depth understanding of complex commercial and technical accounting issues and a firm grasp of IFRS standards.
- Familiarity with financial systems, such as SAP and Hyperion Financial Management (HFM), and a solid understanding of financial controls.
- Operational knowledge within the mining industry is considered an asset.
- Experience in collaboration with other functional disciplines to deliver technical accounting and other related solutions (advantageous).
