Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly motivated and committed employee for the position of

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring all equipment performance targets and work management KPIs are achieved. You will drive continuous improvement initiatives, develop and implement effective maintenance strategies, and provide leadership to a multi-disciplinary team of tradespersons, technicians, and support personnel.
Your duties & Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: -
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, corrective, and shutdown) for all Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) classes.
- Drive reliability improvement initiatives aimed at increasing mean time between failures (MTBF), reducing mean time to repair (MTTR), and maximizing equipment availability.
- Champion Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for significant equipment failures and ensure corrective actions are effectively implemented.
- Monitor and continuously improve condition monitoring programs, including oil analysis, vibration analysis, and thermography.
- Benchmark fleet performance against OEM standards and industry best practices.
- Oversee the maintenance planning process, including work order prioritization, resource allocation, parts availability, and backlog management.
- Collaborate closely with Operations to align maintenance windows with production schedules, minimizing operational downtime.
- Ensure accurate equipment history, failure coding, and maintenance records are maintained within the CMMS (e.g., SAP).
- Develop, manage, and report on the annual mobile maintenance budget, including labour, parts, contractors, and consumables.
- Support capital planning activities for fleet replacement programs and major component rebuilds.
- Manage relationships with OEMs and third-party service providers, including field service representatives and component rebuild centres.
- Develop and maintain plans for defect elimination and management of recurring equipment “bad actors.”
- Develop, implement, and maintain safe work procedures while promoting a strong safety culture and high health awareness in compliance with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Policy.
- Manage workforce capacity, shift rosters, training and development plans, and succession planning initiatives.
- Conduct performance reviews, address disciplinary matters where necessary, and recognize and reward high performance.
- To be considered for the position, you must have the following:
- Minimum Degree in Mechanical/ Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in maintenance roles within mining, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity overseeing HME fleets of 50+ units.
- Proven experience with large mining equipment (100–400 tonne haul trucks, hydraulic shovels, electric rope shovels, dozers).
- Must have an excellent understanding of maintenance management principles.
- Able to read, understand, and reference technical drawings and maintenance manuals.
- Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
- Experience in managing costs and budgeting will be an added advantage.
