Reporting to the Logistic Coordinator, you will be responsible for simplifying the trade movement of import and export of goods by ensuring that compliance with global regulations are clearly understood, determining customs classifications and regulatory requirements (permits, licenses, Audits, SADC certificates, exemptions etc, are completed correctly).
Your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Efficiently plan and coordinate movement of goods from various countries through different modes of transportation i.e. airfreight, courier, road freight and sea freight etc.
- Manage and maintain relationships with carriers by ensuring compliance with the company’s transport standards and requirements.
- Arrange smooth transportation and port clearance of containers prior to arriving at point of discharge.
- Ensure consignments dispatched from various countries are delivered to site in a good condition and clean proof of delivery (POD) is issued to the transporter accordingly.
- Responsible and accountable for determining Customs tariff classifications and regulatory requirements. Accurately classifying commodities according to the harmonized system (HS) code for proper duty evaluation.
- Actively seek opportunities within the law to manage cash flow through VAT deferment applications; seeking duty exemptions to ensure customs and VAT paid is minimised.
- Look for opportunities to apply for Advance tariff Rulings to minimise risk of customs disputes with ZRA.

- Ensure that all imports and exports activities comply with relevant laws and regulations.
- Effectively manage Customs CACP and AEO compliance requirements aimed at reducing border congestion and facilitating smooth trade movement of goods.
- Manage the implementation and control of new legislation, amendments or developments to improve border clearance services.
- Manage document retention system by ensuring that all customs documentations are prepared for export and import clearance, permits, audit reviews, and filed properly.
- Coordinate with finance department to ensure payments to ZRA is processed on time.
- Ensure all business partners are performing within the scope and have valid business permits and contracts. Improve good customer relationships with all parties involved customs authorities, brokers, transporters, and agents to ensure efficient customs process.
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Minimum grade 12 school certificate.
- Minimum Diploma (ABMA) in customs clearance, Level 5 CIPS/CILT or related customs and transport course.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Customs Professional or in a similar role.
- In-depth knowledge in transportation of cross border goods and customs laws, audits, regulations, and procedures.
- Holder of valid Zambian driver’s licence
- Familiarity with international trade agreements and customs compliance best practices.
- Excellent computer skills; use of MS Office PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook, databases,
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team within Supply Chain Logistics and Tax departments.
- Understanding of the relationship between transporters, clearing agents, Government and importers and exporters.

About The Team
The Lumwana copper mine is a conventional open pit (truck and shovel) operation. It’s located about 100 kilometers west of Solwezi in Zambia’s Copperbelt — one of the most prospective copper regions in the world. Lumwana ore, which is predominantly sulfide, is treated through a conventional sulfide flotation plant, producing copper concentrate.
