About The Role
The Production Superintendent is responsible for overseeing daily production operations to ensure efficiency, quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves leading production teams, optimizing processes, and ensuring that production targets are met in alignment with organizational goals.
The position is site based on a 4 weeks on / 2 weeks off (4 2) roster on a FIFO basis back to home base
Reporting to the Mine Manager, you will collaborate with Mine Operations, Geology, HSE, Maintenance, and drilling contractors within an inclusive and high-performance team environment.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise daily production activities.
- Ensure production schedules are met while maintaining high quality standards.
- Monitor and control production costs and resource utilization.
- Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors and operators.
- Train and coach the National Mining Leads to uplift the competency and capabilities in line for succession planning
- Promote a positive, high-performance work culture.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide continuous feedback.
- Liaise with mine management, supervisors, MTS personnel, and contractors to address inspection findings.
- Promote and demonstrate a strong safety culture across all mining activities.
- Lead by example in the application of safe work practices and risk management.
- Conduct workplace safety interactions and engage personnel in proactive hazard identification.
- Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSEC) requirements.
- Ensure production processes meet quality standards and specifications.
- Collaborate with quality teams to implement improvement initiatives.
- Support operational teams by identifying opportunities to improve safety, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Identify opportunities for improving productivity and efficiency.
- Implement Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement initiatives where applicable.
- Monitor KPIs and drive operational excellence.
- Coordinate with maintenance, supply chain, and engineering teams.
- Prepare and present production reports, metrics, and forecasts.
- Ensure effective communication across departments.
Qualifications And Experience
- Mining engineering qualification or equivalent leadership experience in open pit environment
- 8-10 years of experience in mine production operations.
- Proven leadership experience in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong knowledge of production processes, safety standards, and quality systems.
- Experience working with contractors in large-scale open pit mining environments
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Familiarity with HSE standards and regulatory compliance requirements
- Experience working in remote or international mining operations.
- Training and assessment qualifications would be advantageous.
- Proven ability to train, mentor, and develop operational personnel.
- Proficiency in French & Mandarin (written and verbal) would be highly desirable.
- Strong experience supervising or coordinating production operations within mining environments
- Development and competency improvement of national team members.
- Proven ability to manage contractor performance and ensure delivery against operational targets
- Sound understanding of productive mining methods and associated equipment
- Good knowledge of drilling safety standards, risk management, and critical controls
- Ability to interpret mine plans, layouts, and technical instructions
- Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional teams (operations, geology, contractors)
- Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to respond to operational challenges in dynamic environments
- Commitment to safety leadership and fostering a positive safety culture
- Basic computer skills and experience with reporting systems and operational data

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
