We are leading the development of the mining industry to become the third pillar of Saudi Arabia’s economy by building a world-class, unique, and fully integrated mining value chain."
We are pleased to share an exciting opportunity for the below mentioned position. This role offers a chance to contribute to our ambitious growth and play a key part in shaping the future of mining in the Kingdom.
OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for leading process safety management and supporting the Assurance & Compliance function to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant performance across Maaden’s industrial and process operations. The role owns the identification, assessment, and control of process safety and major accident hazards, and works as an integral member of the Assurance & Compliance team to verify conformance with internal and external audit requirements, regulatory standards, and Maaden’s EHSS Management System.
It also implements, monitors, and continuously improves Health, Safety, and Environment programs to support efficient operations. The position requires proven industrial experience (mining, metals, refining, smelting, or comparable heavy industry, not construction-only), strong process-safety and analytical capability, hands-on field engagement, and the ability to drive audits, assurance activities, and corrective-action follow-up to closure.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Lead process safety management across operating assets, including process hazard analysis (e.g., HAZOP/LOPA), major accident hazard assessment, asset/mechanical integrity, management of change, and pre-startup safety reviews.
- Serve as a core member of the Assurance & Compliance team, verifying conformance with internal and external audit requirements, regulatory standards, and Maaden’s EHSS Management System, and validating that controls are effective and sustained.
- Validate and follow up on corrective and preventive actions arising from audits, assurance reviews, and incidents, ensuring timely closure and verification of effectiveness.
- Implement, manage, and continuously improve HSE programs, including Industrial Hygiene, hazard identification, and risk-control measures.
- Lead periodic reviews and updates of high-level HSE policies, procedures, and standards to reflect regulatory changes and industry best practice.
- Develop and maintain Safety, Health, and Environmental standards, programs, plans, and strategic frameworks.
- Conduct and oversee comprehensive assessments of physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic, and environmental hazards in an operating-plant context.
- Apply knowledge of NNRC (National Nuclear and Radiological Control) standards and radiation risk management as required.
- Recommend and validate engineering, administrative, PPE, and environmental controls to effectively mitigate operational and process risks.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert on complex HSE topics, particularly process safety, major accident hazards, and environmental incidents.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Chemical/Process Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or an equivalent discipline.
Additional certifications Recognized HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent. Process safety credentials (e.g., HAZOP leadership, PSM, or equivalent) are considered an advantage.
Minimum Experience:
10+ years of practical HSE experience within operating heavy industry, mining, metals, refining, or industrial/process operations, with demonstrated depth in process safety, risk assessment, compliance, and assurance. Experience must be grounded in live operational/process environments; construction-only experience will not be considered sufficient for this role.
Skills:
- Provides clear direction, constructive feedback, and consistent alignment to HSE expectations across teams.
- Communicates confidently across departments, ensuring operational teams, contractors, and support functions clearly understand process safety, compliance, and performance requirements.
- Ensures accuracy in reporting, documentation, and compliance activities while modeling responsible safety behavior.
- Interprets data, evaluates risk, and recommends practical solutions that enhance operational and process-safety performance.
- Maintains strong knowledge of global HSE regulations and international EHS management systems.
- Applies advanced risk-assessment and process-safety techniques to identify hazards, evaluate control effectiveness, and support risk-based decision-making.
- Understands environmental compliance and sustainability obligations and integrates them into daily operations.
- Produces high-quality reports, presentations, and documentation with strong analytical writing.
- Applies compliance, assurance, and audit frameworks to monitor conformance and identify improvement opportunities.
