Rainy River
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River mine, located adjacent to the Ontario/Minnesota border is 65 kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

About The Role
Position: Assay Lab Lead Hand
Shift: 14/14 - day and night shifts (Camp accommodation is available for this role)
Position Reports To: Assay Lab Supervisor
Position Overview
Assay lab lead hand will be responsible for overseeing and assisting in the supervision of the assay lab daily operations and crew support for day-to-day tasks. Having full training and understanding of the Sample prep area, Fire assay area, LECO & Digestion, and Instrumentation (ICP + AA+ MP). Assay lab lead hand leads and trains employees in every area of the assay lab, ensuring efficient quality standards and control, regulatory requirements and safety processing.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate toolbox meeting
- Entering toolbox meetings into INX
- Entering INX reports
- Entering daily stats for Mill and Geology
- SAP proficiency for reservations and ordering of materials and equipment for the assay lab
- Ensuring all employees are working within safety guidelines and wearing proper PPE
- Reviewing daily roster schedule for all crews
- Ensuring SOPs are being followed and employees are following QA-QC protocols
- Addressing health and safety concerns to the supervisor
- Conduct weekly health and safety meetings if required
- Conduct all duties of any working area (Sample preparation, Fire assay, Wet lab, Instrumentation, bullions and supervision) of the assay lab
- Conduct cross-training of all employees in every area of the assay lab
- Conduct Job hazard analysis and Job task observations
- Ensure sample processing and results are released within an adequate time frame of 48 hours
- Bullion analysis to be completed as required (both internal and external)
- Ensuring maintenance logs are completed and updated on a daily basis
- Ensuring training compliance of assay lab staff members
Qualifications
- Previous assay lab experience in all areas (Sample preparation, Fire assay, Wet lab and Instrumentation)
- Leadership experience considered an asset
- Problem solving skills
- Background in chemistry considered an asset
- Extensive knowledge of operating procedures
- SAP and MS office proficiency
- Work in a team environment to meet deadlines
- Positive attitude and commitment to safety
- Good initiative and judgement
- Effective communication
