About The Opportunity
We are looking for a
Senior Analyst, Operations to join our Centerra Corporate team who will play a key role in supporting Centerra’s operations through business analysis, performance tracking, and strategic project support. This position is a hybrid role based at our
Toronto, ON office.
This position requires a technical background and a passion for operational excellence in the mining industry, as well as a high level of collaboration across corporate departments, site operations, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant experience, strong technical and financial acumen, and the flexibility to travel regularly to Centerra’s global operations and projects.
Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
Operational & Strategic Analysis
- Serve as the primary analytical and operational support to the COO across Centerra’s portfolio of assets.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and analytical models to track key performance indicators across operations.
- Analyze operational KPIs, financial metrics, and project performance across global mine sites.
- Participate in site visits, audits, and operational reviews to gain firsthand knowledge of challenges and opportunities.
- Synthesize operational and business intelligence data to support strategic initiatives and long-range planning.
- Conduct root cause analysis and operational efficiency assessments; identify opportunities for improvement and recommend data-driven solutions.
- Support the COO with ad hoc analysis, insights, and presentations for executive and board-level decision making.
Financial & Scenario Modeling
- Build and refine business models for operating units, focusing on production, cost, and capital expenditure forecasts.
- Prepare business cases and reports regarding projects and initiatives.
- Perform sensitivity and scenario analyses to identify key value drivers and risks.
- Work closely with Technical Services, Operations, Projects, Environmental, and Finance teams to align technical assumptions with financial outcomes.
- As required, perform peer reviews of financial models and analysis completed by others.
Special Projects
- Lead special projects, by setting clear objectives, coordinating deliverables, and ensuring timely, high-quality execution aligned with project goals.
- Evaluate project proposals, mine plans, and cash flow improvement / cost-reduction initiatives to determine business impact and operational feasibility.
- Navigate ambiguity and incomplete information effectively, to advance special projects towards their goals.
- Lead or support post-investment reviews and continuous improvement projects.
Cross-Functional Engagement
- Lead mixed-experience teams, including senior-level colleagues, ensuring accountability across diverse functions and levels.
- Collaborate effectively and proactively with mine sites, corporate departments (Technical Services, Projects, Environmental, and Finance), and external stakeholders.
Communication
- Synthesize and confidently present analysis, findings, and options to cross-functional audiences including executives, operations, and site-based teams.
- Develop clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders, including risk assessments and mitigation plans.
About You
The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations analysis, project evaluation, business intelligence, or a related function in the mining or heavy industrial sector.
- Hands-on exposure to mine site operations or EPCM environments strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with financial modeling, operational KPIs, and scenario analysis in a capital-intensive industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- MBA, CFA, or equivalent financial credential preferred.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with proficiency in Excel and business intelligence tools.
- Working knowledge of mine planning, cost estimation, and operational metrics in the mining industry.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; capable of synthesizing complex data for executive audiences.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Professional and discrete, with the ability to handle confidential information.
- Experience with enterprise systems (especially SAP) and Power BI is an asset.
- Language proficiency in Spanish, French and/or Turkish is an asset.
