About The Role
We are looking for Specialist
Projects and Automated Production Systems to join our diverse team. This is a key role within the Owner’s team with the responsibility for growing a diverse and capable team to continue the development of and ramp up of production activities for four block cave mines.
The Opportunity
The Specialist Projects and Automated Production Systems will assist in implementing and optimizing production technology projects, including automated loaders and collision avoidance systems, to enhance safety and efficiency in underground mining.
This role is designed to provide foundational exposure to mining technology, project coordination, and safety practices, with mentorship and development opportunities for career progression.
This role is a critical function within underground mining operations, requiring the ability to influence and negotiate across multiple departments, including Production, Maintenance, Loader OEM’s, and Tactical teams. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of fostering collaboration between stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of automation projects.
While technical training will be provided, we are looking for candidates with the right attitude, problem-solving mindset, and soft skills.
What The Role Entails
4 weeks on/ 2 weeks off international FIFO arrangement and reporting to Superintendent Production Projects, you will
- Project Support
- Assist in the planning and execution of technology-focused production projects, including automated loaders and collision avoidance systems.
- Work under the guidance of senior team members to collect and analyze data related to production technologies.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to documentation and reporting tasks.
- Technology Integration Assistance
- Assist in monitoring and troubleshooting automated loaders and collision avoidance systems under supervision.
- Collect and analyze basic operational data to identify areas for improvement.
- Work collaboratively with the production and maintenance teams to support technology implementation.
- Skill Development and Training
- Engage in structured training programs on underground mining technologies and safety practices.
- Shadow experienced team members to learn technical skills related to production technology and automation.
- Contribute to knowledge-sharing sessions with other junior team members.
- Safety and Risk Management
- Implement safety-focused initiatives within production projects, particularly concerning collision avoidance technology and automation.
- Ensure all technology systems comply with mine safety standards and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Actively promote safety awareness and best practices within the production team.
- Data Collection and Reporting
- Analyze performance data from automated and collision avoidance systems to generate insights that drive productivity and safety improvements.
- Collect and document operational data from production technology systems.
- Assist in preparing reports on system performance, safety incidents, and project updates.
What You Will Need For This Role
- 6+ years’ experience in underground mines managing development, production and rehabilitation activities
Work Experience Areas
- Advanced experience with Sandvilk Automine and MultiLite autonomous mining systems.
- Experience working in a block cave or underground mining environment.
- Knowledge of collision avoidance technology, fleet management, and digital mine systems.
- Underground Mining & Equipment Operation
- Production Loader or Haul Truck Operator (with knowledge of automated systems)
- Mine Technician (supporting production automation and technology testing)
- Maintenance Technician (experience with automated mining equipment, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting)
Industry-Specific Safety & Operations Certifications
- Diploma or degree in Mining Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related field.
- Certifications in underground mining safety and equipment operation.
- Underground Mining Equipment Operation Training
- Training on remote or semi-autonomous operation of underground loaders, drills, and haul trucks.
- Certifications in Mining Automation Systems
- Training from Sandvik AutoMine, Epiroc’s Mobius, or Caterpillar's MineStar Command.
- Proven experience with Sandvik Automine, production loader operation, and technology-related projects.
- Demonstrated success in coaching and developing team members, ideally in a mining or industrial context.
- Understanding of functional safety in mining.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Skills in project management and technology integration.

Where you’ll be working
Oyu Tolgoi is an operating Copper / Gold open pit mine with a brownfields underground mining project. The site is located in the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia. The reserves case for the underground project is in the order of 0.5 billion tonnes of ore to be mined from the 95,000 tonnes per day Hugo North Lift 1 (HNL1) panel cave mine with a 20-year operations life. There is also the potential for 3 further block cave districts to increase mine life beyond 100 years.
