About The Role
Are you passionate about public policy, Indigenous partnerships, and the future of sustainable mining? Interested in how a global mining company engages governments, communities, and industry leaders? Join IAMGOLD’s External Affairs team and gain meaningful experience at the intersection of policy, partnership, and strategic communications.
As an External Affairs Intern, you’ll contribute to real projects that support responsible mining, reconciliation efforts, and positive stakeholder relationships. Working closely with the VP, External Affairs, you’ll develop practical skills, expand your network, and help advance initiatives that create long-term value for communities and the industry.
The Internship is from May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

What You’ll Do
- Government Relations & Policy Support
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the mining sector.
- Prepare clear and concise briefing notes, summaries, and research memos.
- Support preparations for meetings with government officials and industry partners.
- Indigenous Relations & Community Engagement
- Assist with coordination of Indigenous partnership initiatives and reconciliation activities.
- Track emerging trends in Indigenous relations and community engagement.
- Help organize meetings, workshops, and events with Indigenous communities and stakeholders.
- Compliance
- Contribute to compliance activities related to lobbying and reporting requirements.
- Stakeholder Mapping & Relationship Building
- Maintain and update stakeholder databases and contact lists.
- Support the team in tracking engagement activities and key relationships.
Key Skills & Knowledge
What You Bring
- Currently enrolled in or graduating from a post secondary program in public policy, political science, Indigenous studies, communications, or a related field.
- Internship or volunteer experience in government, non-profit, Indigenous relations, external affairs, or related areas is an asset — but not required. (Curiosity, willingness to learn, and initiative matter just as much.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid research, analytical thinking, and the ability to synthesize information clearly.
- Professionalism, discretion, and strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Interest in reconciliation, responsible resource development, and relationship-building.

Salary Range: $18.25 - $29.34
