Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. About The Role
Position: Temporary Equipment Operator
Schedule: 7/7 – 12 hour Days and Nights
Term: May – October 2026
Position Overview
Reporting to the Construction Supervisor, the Temporary Equipment Operator (Construction) will provide equipment operating expertise to Rainy River New Gold Construction (NGC) for the TMA Stage 8 Raise construction and other projects as required. This temporary position will have a six (6) month term anticipated from May to October 2026 and will be based at the Rainy River Mine Site in Blackhawk, Ontario. The primary duties of the Temporary Equipment Operator (Construction) are to inspect, maintain, and operate heavy construction equipment to perform construction activities in a safe and efficient manner to meet production objectives.
As a member of the New Gold Capital Projects department, the Temporary Equipment Operator (Construction) is expected to live by the New Gold values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. in their daily work. The successful candidate must demonstrate commitment to and compliance with all company and industry Health & Safety, Environmental, and Social Responsibility policies and is responsible for engaging their work with the Courage to Care; never compromising on safety, looking out for one another, and stopping work if it is not safe.
- Please note that flights are not provided for this role. Preference may be given to candidates of the Rainy River District.
Duties And Responsibilities - Champion Site Safety Policies & Procedures
- Maintain review compliance with all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other site safety policies and procedures on a minimum annual basis or as policies and procedures are revised.
- Perform work in compliance with all relevant policies and procedures and ensure that all mining regulations and company safety standards are met or exceeded in all aspects of work performed by self and others.
- Complete a daily Field Level Risk Assessment (FLRA) documenting work activity, safety risks, and the controls and mitigations applied by the worker to reduce the level of risk and prevent incidents.
- Conduct Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for non-routine tasks and ensure that all work performed is supported by a formal assessment of risks and hazards which have been reviewed and signed off prior to work.
- Participate in morning toolbox talk discussing the work activities, raising and addressing safety concerns, and participating actively in the Positive Action Safety System (P.A.S.S.).
- Operate Heavy Construction Equipment
- Complete all required training and demonstrate competency in operating heavy construction equipment.
- Responsible for performing thorough pre-operational and post-operational circle checks of equipment documenting all issues on equipment logbook, and to clean, maintain, and secure all equipment as directed by legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Responsible to operator heavy construction equipment in a safe and reliable manner , in accordance to all policies and procedures, and to report all issues in a timely manner to the Construction Supervisor. Equipment may include front-end loaders, dozers, excavators, haul trucks, and other equipment as required by business needs.

- Previous experience operating equipment, in construction, or in mining industry is an asset but not a requirement.
- Physical fitness is an asset as intermittent manual labour can be required in this role.
Requirements
- Grade 12 Diploma or GED Preferred
- Hold or Obtain Equipment Operation Training (Conducted on Site)
- Hold or Obtain Ontario Common Core Training (Conducted on Site)
Working Conditions
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind conditions.
- Working outdoors on uneven terrain and slopes of various materials in active construction areas.
- Driving, walking, and working in congested high-traffic mining and construction areas with heavy equipment.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items required (typically less than 23 kgs).
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $65,000 to $73,000.
