About The Role
Curious about how engineering, risk management, and sustainability come together in real-world mining operations? IAMGOLD operates tailings management facilities across its sites and is continuously working to strengthen governance, risk management, and operational excellence.
As a Tailings Risk Management & Governance Intern, you’ll gain hands-on exposure to the technical, governance, and sustainability aspects of tailings and water management. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn how global mining standards are applied in practice, while supporting initiatives that enhance safety, risk governance, and performance tracking across the business.
The Internship is from May 4, 2026 to August 28, 2026.

What You’ll Do
- Guidance, Training & Awareness for Safe Dam Operations
- Conduct literature reviews of tailings and dam failure case studies where operational, monitoring, or maintenance factors contributed to failures.
- Develop clear, relatable training materials and summaries for dam operators based on case study findings.
- Compile guidance related to Trigger Action Response Plans (TARPs) and support gap assessments against current practices.
- Tailings & Water Risk Assessment
- Receive training on CIRisk DB and Bowtie risk assessment software and support companywide implementation.
- Collect, input, and validate data to support risk analyses.
- Participate in risk assessment workshops and compile summary risk registers.
- Evaluate water management infrastructure vulnerabilities using defined criteria.
- Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Develop automated tools (using Excel, Power BI, Intellex, or similar) to track action items and governance commitments.
- Create progress dashboards and reporting summaries.
- Support development of the 2026 Tailings Report, including:
- Peer review of comparable industry reports and public standards.
- Review of publicly available policies and governance practices.
- Liaise with operating sites to collect data and conduct interviews.
- Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) – Tailings Protocol
- Support implementation of the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) Tailings Management Protocol.
- Participate in a site visit to Côté Gold.
- Assist site teams in reviewing, developing, and implementing protocol requirements.
- Additional Project Support
- Perform other related duties and project work as assigned in support of tailings governance and risk management.
Key Skills & Knowledge
What You Bring
- Currently enrolled in an Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, or related program.
- Comfortable with software and building automated tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Intellex).
- Interest in risk management, governance, or sustainability frameworks.
- Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Curious, self motivated, and adaptable.
- French speaking candidates are encouraged to apply.

Salary Range: $18.25 - $29.34
