Job description:
Job Purpose:
- As a key member of the process optimization team, the senior process control specialist will be responsible for optimizing the performance of the Sentinel copper supplied concentrator plant. Reporting to the Optimization Superintendent, the senior process control specialist will play a crucial role in identifying improvement opportunities, developing and deploying advanced process control strategies, and integrating AI applications into existing process control functionality.
Specific Job Responsibility:
- Data Analysis and Optimization:
- Perform in-depth data analysis to identify and prioritize opportunities for process improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement changes aimed at optimizing plant performance and efficiency.
- Control System Development and Tuning:
- Continuously develop, improve, and tune base layer and expert controllers to enhance overall process stability and efficiency.
- Stay abreast of industry advancements and integrate best practices into control strategies.
- Advanced Process Control Strategies:
- Develop and deploy adaptive and advanced process control strategies to optimize key process parameters and ensure consistent product quality.
- Build and deploy soft sensors to enhance real-time monitoring of critical process variables.
- Utilize soft sensor data to improve predictive modeling and proactive decision-making.
- Integration of AI Applications:
- Lead the integration of artificial intelligence applications into process control functionality, enhancing system intelligence and responsiveness.
- Work closely with IT and automation teams to ensure seamless integration and compatibility.
- Employee Development and Coaching:
- Provide coaching and mentorship to local employees, fostering skill development and knowledge transfer.
- Facilitate training sessions to ensure the team is proficient in the latest process control technologies and methodologies.
Job Specific Competencies:
- Deep understanding of metallurgical operations of a high throughput copper concentrator.
- Good understanding of key process engineering aspects.
- High level understanding of key engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process control).
- Knowledge of project management best practices.
- Proficient in delivering technical presentations and reports tailored to diverse audiences.
- Skilled in managing time effectively and consistently meeting targets with deadlines.

Experience:
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in process control engineering within a copper and nickel sulphide concentrator plant or similar mineral processing environment.
- Proficiency in utilizing advanced control strategies, soft sensors, and AI applications.
Qualification:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Control, or a related field.
- Eligibility for membership of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) and to hold legal appointment as defined by the Mining Regulations of Zambia
- All qualifications must be certified by ZAQA
