Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Purpose
Oversee geotechnical activities to ensure ground stability and compliance with standards.
Essential Duties
- Ensure quality control processes are being completed to Newmont's standard
- Collaborate with technical services and mining teams
- Prepare reports on geotechnical findings
- Assess stope designs to ensure stability
- Administer geotechnical investigations
- Adhere to compliance with safety standards
- Conduct risk assessments
- Collect and assess geotechnical data
- Provide technical support to field staff
- Responsible for assessing relevant risks, executing mitigation measures, and continuously monitoring for changes in risk profile
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
Proven knowledge of geotechnical principles through the completion of formal education qualifications in
Geotechnical Engineering or related fields to support these activities within the Technical Services team. Possess
proven knowledge of geotechnical risk mitigation through the application of best practices and safety standards.
Technical skills:
Technical skills include rockmass characterization, stope design, geotechnical monitoring, data collection,
reconciliation, compliance with safety regulations and effective risk assessment. For this supervisory role, the
applicant must demonstrate advanced proficiency in these areas. The role also necessitates familiarity with safety
standards, quality control procedures, and coordination with engineering teams, including the ability to carry out
specific activities using appropriate tools and processes to achieve defined business outcomes
