Newmont Suriname was established in 2004 as an entity of Newmont Mining Corporation and is headquartered in Paramaribo, Suriname. Located in South America, Suriname was originally settled as a Dutch colony, is very culturally diverse and enjoys a tropical climate. The Merian Project is located approximately 60 km south of Moengo in a largely undeveloped part of the country with the nearest permanent settlement, Langa Tabiki, approximately 17 km east from the Project site. Strong support from host communities and the government of Suriname strengthen Merian's ability to deliver safe, profitable production with significant upside potential and opportunity for employees, host communities and shareholders.
Purpose
Support the development and implementation of communication strategies to enhance the organization’s reputation, ensure consistent messaging, and engage internal and external audiences in alignment with corporate objectives under the guidance of the Lead Communications.
Essential Duties
- Support in preparing and implementing communication plans for internal and external audiences in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Prepare and revise content for press releases, media monitoring, newsletters, reports, and maintain internal channels/digital platforms and content/video & visual modification & generation
- Assist the running of social media accounts by preparing and scheduling engaging content
- Liaise with media outlets to provide accurate and timely dissemination of company information
- Support in planning, execution and promoting corporate events, internal/external campaigns, and stakeholders /community engagement initiatives
- Monitor and evaluate media coverage to assess public perception and suggest strategies/prepare analysis and anticipates future communication trends.
- Maintain consistency in messaging by aligning communication materials with corporate branding guidelines
- Liaise with cross-functional teams to assist communication needs for key projects
- Provide responses to media inquiries and liaise approvals for public statements
- Administer records, comply and utilize work establish system for the business and safe guard and monitor communication budgets/expenditures related strategic activities/projects and compile reports for department leadership & S&ER department.
Training & Experience
Knowledge:
- Bachelor's Degree in journalism, communications, public relations, public administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- 2-3 years of experience in graphic design and progressively responsible experience involving public information, public relations, marketing, communications, Social media and web content management, and use of innovative technology or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties.
- Interpersonal relationship skills and comprehension of English, Dutch language and Sranan Tongo
Technical Skills:
- Analytics, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud and other programs.
- Strong working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop.
- Video Camera, Drone handling competency
- Write stories, articles, reports and blogs
- Principles and techniques of public speaking
