Your Next Challenge
Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be part of Process Plant Operations Team. You will be accountable for ensuring the processing facility is designed, constructed, commissioned, and handed over fit for operations—safe, efficient, maintainable, and aligned with the operating strategy. During construction, the role embeds with the construction and project teams to drive operational readiness, establish systems, procedures, training, and influence design/installation to meet operational needs. As commissioning approaches, the Superintendent builds and leads the Process Plant Operations team to deliver a safe start-up, stable ramp-up, and ongoing improvements in performance and cost effectiveness You will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.
- Construction & Operational Readiness
- Design-for-Operations: Lead operability/maintainability reviews; influence layout, materials handling, sampling, control philosophy, isolation, drains, lifting points, spares strategy, etc.;
- Commissioning Strategy & Plans: Co-develop pre- commissioning / commissioning / start-up plans for all process plant circuits;
- Define handover criteria and punch-list closeout processes;
- Systems & Governance: Develop SOPs, emergency procedures, LOTO, isolation standards, confined space, line break, housekeeping (5S), decontamination control;
- People & Training: Design org structure, role profiles, onboarding, and training competency matrices;
- Stakeholder & Interface Management: Be the voice of Operations within construction to ensure the build aligns with operational requirements and lifecycle performance. Collaborate with Environment, Community, and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance readiness;
- Strategy & Planning: Partner with senior management to establish site operating strategy.
- Commissioning, Start-Up & Ramp Up
- Safety Leadership: Be a visible safety champion; integrate risk management into every activity from construction to steady state;
- Environmental Stewardship: Integrate environmental considerations into daily tasks; prevent and mitigate impacts; ensure compliance with permits, monitoring, and reporting;
- Performance & Stabilization: Achieve stable operations against performance test criteria and ramp-up curves;
- Troubleshooting & Improvement: Analyse plant/process data to identify bottlenecks and optimization opportunities; implement corrective actions swiftly;
- Day-to-Day Leadership: Manage the Process Plant to meet production targets safely and cost-effectively, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements;
- Continuous Improvement: Champion best practices in optimization, and reliability;
- People Leadership: Build and develop the Process Plant Operations team (Team Leaders, Control Room Operators, Field Operators). Provide coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and succession development;
- Cost Management: Track commissioning and operating costs, reagents/consumables, power intensity, and unit costs; implement controls without compromising safety or performance;
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure adherence to corporate governance, standards, and procedures; maintain operating discipline and reporting integrity.
What You Need To Succeed
- Minimum 10 years relevant processing experience;
- At least 5 years in a gold processing environment;
- Previous 3 years’ experience in Senior Supervisory roles;
- Commissioning/operational readiness for new or expanded plants is an advantage;
- Developed leadership and management skills;
- Good computer skills with prior exposure to Microsoft Office Suite and SAP;
- Knowledge of Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
- Demonstrated ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced industrial setting;
- Proven ability to deal with process upsets, instability, and changing conditions;
- Knowledge and personal credibility to influence co-workers;
- Strong time management and prioritization skills;
- Proactive and self-motivated;
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work within a diverse workplace;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of process control equipment and software like HMI, OSA, etc.
Your Work Schedule
- Schedule: 5/2 or 4/3 schedule at our Upper Beaver Gold Project in Dobie, ON.
