OVERALL JOB PURPOSE:
Ensure safe, reliable, and loss-free operations within the Phosphoric Acid Plant (PAP) and Gypsum handling/storage facilities by identifying operational risks, implementing loss prevention strategies, and monitoring compliance with EHSS and process safety standards.
The role focuses on minimizing process losses, safety incidents, environmental releases, equipment damage, and production disruptions through systematic monitoring, audits, process analysis, and operational discipline.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Operational and Functional
- Implement and maintain loss prevention strategies for the phosphoric acid production process and gypsum handling operations.
- Monitor plant operations to identify potential safety hazards, process deviations, or conditions that may lead to material loss, equipment failure, or environmental incidents.
- Ensure strict compliance with EHSS standards, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements across phosphoric acid and gypsum processing areas.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of process units, storage areas, gypsum stacks, and associated infrastructure.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and operational abnormalities to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Monitor process parameters, mass balance, and material handling systems to detect abnormal losses or inefficiencies.
- Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to address equipment integrity risks and operational vulnerabilities.
- Support emergency response activities and ensure readiness for potential chemical releases, spills, or process safety incidents.
- Promote best practices for safe handling, storage, and transport of phosphoric acid, gypsum slurry, and associated materials.
- Maintain records of inspections, safety observations, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
- Assist in process hazard analysis (PHA), HAZOP reviews, and safety risk assessments related to PAP and gypsum facilities.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce process losses, improve operational reliability, and enhance plant safety performance.
Leadership & Professional Development
- Promote a strong loss prevention and safety culture across plant operations.
- Act as a subject matter resource for process safety, risk identification, and loss control strategies.
- Encourage reporting of unsafe conditions and near misses to improve operational safety awareness.
- Participate in training programs to enhance operational knowledge and safety competencies within the workforce.
- Support knowledge sharing and technical learning related to process safety and loss prevention practices.
- Promote accountability, discipline, and adherence to operational procedures.

Relationship Management & Collaboration
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and EHSS teams to ensure integrated loss prevention practices.
- Collaborate with plant leadership to develop and implement risk mitigation initiatives.
- Engage contractors and external service providers to ensure safe execution of activities within plant facilities.
- Coordinate with environmental teams regarding gypsum stack management, environmental monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
- Communicate operational risks and safety findings effectively to relevant stakeholders.
- Share technical reports and recommendations to support continuous operational improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Safety, or related technical discipline.
Alternatively, a Science or Engineering degree with relevant industrial safety or process operations experience.
Minimum Experience:
10–15 years of experience in process operations, process safety, or loss prevention, preferably within:
- Phosphoric Acid Plants
- Fertilizer or chemical processing facilities
- Gypsum or phosphogypsum handling systems
