About The Role
The Mining Manager is responsible for leading and managing all mining operations for the contract mining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective production. This role oversees production execution, people management, contractor performance, and compliance with regulatory and environmental standards. The Mining Manager plays a key leadership role in optimizing production while maintaining a strong culture of safety and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and direct all mining activities to meet production targets.
- Oversee all mining operations within the Contract mining scopes of work
- Ensure alignment between short‑, medium‑, and long‑term mine plans.
- Monitor and improve operational KPIs (productivity, availability, utilization, costs).
- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Lead safety programs, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all mining teams and contractors.
- Ensure compliance with national mining laws and environmental standards.
- Lead, coach, and develop mining supervisors, engineers, and operational teams.
- Manage contractor performance to ensure quality, efficiency, and compliance.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
- Collaborate with mine planners, geologists, and processing teams and contracting partners to optimize production.
- Implement initiatives to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.
- Review and approve mining schedules, resource allocation, and equipment needs.
- Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and long‑term strategic planning.
- Monitor and report on daily, weekly, and monthly production performance.
- Manage OPEX and CAPEX for mining operations.
- Provide operational insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related field preferred
- Greater than 10 years’ experience in mining operations, including minimum of 3+ years in a superintendent or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of mine planning, production processes, and mining regulations.
- Proven experience managing large teams and contractors.
- Strong commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Fluency in French and Mandarin is highly regarded
- Experience with open‑pit mining operations
- Experience working in West Africa or multi‑cultural environments.

About The Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.
Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
