About Lihir
Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose
Responsible for providing civil and structural engineering design and modifications within the process plant and associated mine site infrastructure that shall meet company specifications, comply with operational requirements, agreements and relevant standards.
Essential Duties
- Provide civil and structural engineering designs and calculations to relevant design codes and standards.
- Review and investigate proposed structural modifications within the process plant and mine site infrastructure and provide engineering guidance.
- Conduct site inspections and prepare conceptual structural design options for presentations to clients and stakeholders.
- Prepare for review detailed drawings suitable for construction.
- Liaise with inter-departmental clients, stakeholders and external consultants if necessary for design parameters and project requirements.
- Identify and evaluate potential risks related to structural designs and construction methodologies, implementing robust mitigation strategies to enhance safety and project viability.
- Provide technical support during the construction and installation phases, ensuring structures are built according to the design specifications.
Training & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree qualification in Civil Engineering, 3-5 years of structural engineering experience in a mining or heavy industry environment.
- Demonstrated competence in the application of Australian Standards
- Strong technical capability in steel structures and structural concrete.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation capability.
- Experience in the use Space Gass Software.
Strong capability to perform relevant engineering calculations to support designs. - Able to read, understand and prepare engineering drawings.
- Capability to review engineering drawings and red-line in consultation with the design team to ensure accurate design and construction drawings.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with minimal supervision
- Good computer literacy and understanding of Microsoft software suite
- Understanding of safety compliance and regulations
- Registered with IEPNG
- Valid Class 6 Driving License
