Job Description
Position Title: Turnaround Engineer (TA / MOH)
Department: Maintenance / Shutdown & Turnaround
Location: Maaden Aluminum – Rolling Mill
Reporting To: Turnaround Manager

Job Purpose
The Turnaround Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, executing, and closing all Turnaround (TA), Major Overhaul (MOH), and large shutdown activities within the Aluminum Rolling Mill. The role ensures safe, cost-effective, and timely execution of shutdown scopes while maximizing equipment reliability, plant availability, and production readiness.
This position plays a critical role in integrating Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Projects, Procurement, Warehouse, Contractors, and HSE teams to deliver world-class shutdown performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Turnaround Planning & Preparation
- Develop comprehensive TA / MOH master plans, schedules, and milestones.
- Define the scope of work based on asset strategy, inspection findings, reliability risks, statutory requirements, and business priorities.
- Build shutdown work packs including manpower, materials, tools, permits, drawings, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Lead readiness reviews for all TAs and ensure gate approvals before execution.
- Coordinate long-lead spare parts and service contracts in advance.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure all TA / MOH plans (Execution, Quality, EHS, Logistics, etc) are prepared before the TA dates.
- Ensure overall TA / MOH compliance with set procedures and guidelines.
- Coordinate with production stakeholders to ensure alignment of production business units with shutdown dates.
2. Shutdown Execution Management
- Lead comprehensive daily progress meetings and recovery actions for delays.
- Manage contractors and vendor specialists onsite.
- Coordinate multi-disciplinary requirements
- Ensure effective issue and discovery processing and tracking.
- Ensure the availability and compliance.
- Support the start-up process and ensure all punch items are closed.
- Ensure the TA close-Out process effectiveness and adherence.
3. Budget & Cost Control
- Prepare TA budgets and cost estimates.
- Track actual spend vs approved budget.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising scope or safety.
- Validate contractor invoices and service completion.
4. Risk & Reliability Integration
- Prioritize high-risk equipment interventions.
- Integrate inspection findings, RCA actions, condition monitoring results, and bad actor elimination into the TA scope.
- Ensure post-turnaround equipment reliability and defect-free startup.
5. Materials & Logistics Readiness
- Coordinate with Warehouse / Procurement for material availability.
- Manage staging areas, laydown areas, cranes, scaffolding, and logistics plans.
- Ensure critical spares are available before shutdown starts.
6. Governance & Reporting
- Issue weekly preparation progress reports before shutdown.
- Provide daily dashboards during execution (scope, safety, progress, cost, critical path).
- Prepare final closeout report including lessons learned, KPI results, and improvement actions.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Standardize TA processes, templates, checklists, and governance model.
- Benchmark shutdown performance against world-class industry standards.
- Identify future TA capability within plant teams.
- Ensure Lesson Learns development and implementation.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related discipline.
- PMP / Primavera / Shutdown Management certification preferred.
- Reliability certification (CMRP / CRL / Asset Management) is an advantage.
Experience Required
Mandatory
- 10+ years industrial maintenance experience (preferably in Rolling).
- Minimum 7 years directly involved in major Turnarounds / Shutdowns / Major Overhauls.
- Experience in heavy industry, such as:
- Aluminum Rolling Mills
- Metals / Steel Plants
- Mining / Smelter / Refineries
- Petrochemical / Power Plants
Highly Preferred
- Direct Rolling Mill experience (Hot Mill / Cold Mill / Finishing Lines).
- Experience with furnaces, hydraulics, cranes, drives, rotating equipment, utilities, and automation systems.
- Experience handling contractors >500 manpower during shutdowns.
- SAP / Oracle / CMMS planning systems experience.
